Christlike Continues to Touch Hearts Across the Nation

image
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Christlike, on the heels of the success of their smash hit “Here I Am Again,” has seen many lives touched through their ministry lately.

Below are a handful of stories that Daniel Anderson of Christlike recently shared:

“In the past month of being out on the road, we have seen several great moves of God in our services. A man came down to the altar after being an alcoholic for five years. He gave his life to the Lord and walked away delivered. Isn’t it amazing what God can do in an instance!

A couple of weeks ago, we were in a Sunday morning service where the spirit of the Lord was so strong during the alter service that not just one or two people came down but an entire family went to the altar together and accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

We had to opportunity to sing to a group of young men that are in a program called Teen Challenge not long ago. Not only did we see young men give their heart to God, but we had a chance to visit and counsel with some of them. Listening to their testimonies was such an encouragement to us. God has been moving in great ways these past few months, and we are excited to be a part of such a great ministry. To God the glory goes.”

Christlike’s last single, “Here I Am Again,” has spawned off several more stories similar to these three.

The single was the group’s latest Top 40 single on the Singing News Top 80 chart, peaking at #32. The single also broke the Top 10 on the SouthernGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart and SGUSA Weekly Countdown.

Their current single is entitled “If You Don’t Find Him Here” and is already sweeping the nation. The group was recently awarded Breakthrough Artist of the Year earlier this year at the 2005 SGN Music Awards Celebration.

About Christlike
Christlike is an up and coming group based out Oklahoma. They have an energizing country-tinged Southern Gospel style. The group recently signed a recording contract with Family Music Group. The group’s latest album, Journey, was released last summer and spawned off the hit single “Here I Am Again.”

The LeFevre Quartet Releases Debut Recording with Song Garden Music Group

image
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Song Garden Music Group is proud to announce the release of the LeFevre Quartet’s debut recording for the label – Legacy. The new album was produced by Song Garden Music Group’s Nick Bruno and Robbie Hiner. Legacy was released at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Kentucky this past September.

Legacy features original songs written by some of the industry’s top songwriters including Daryl Williams, John Darin Rowsey, Dianne Wilkinson, Dwight Liles, Twila McBride-LaBar, Gina Vera, Cindi Ballard, Marty Funderburk, and many more. The album also features two original songs written by group member David Staton.

The debut single, titled “I Love Him So,” is a LeFevre original, written by Alf LeFevre back in the 1950’s. The song is a tribute to the LeFevre name and features a short interlude of the original track recorded by Rex Nelon.

"The song was actually written by my Uncle Alf LeFevre back in the 50's. On the CD, we start the song out with a short clip of the original LeFevre cut before our arrangement comes in. I think it is a wonderful tribute to The LeFevres, and it sure is good to hear Rex Nelon's voice come over those speakers", says Mike LeFevre. “This group knows how to put their own fingerprint on a song while still paying tribute to their roots!”

A preview of the new single will be showcased on The Gospel Greats hosted by Paul Heil this weekend, September 29, 2005.

Ivan Parker also makes a special guest appearance on the album on “Seek the Kingdom,” a song written by acclaimed songwriters Marty Funderburk and Cindi Ballard.

Legacy is being distributed nationally by Song Garden Music Group, one of Southern Gospel’s leading record labels.

Legacy comes on the heels of the group’s debut on the Southern Gospel scene this year. The group consists of popular vocalist Mike LeFevre, as well as Stephen Sigmon, David Staton, Stacy Bragg, Mike Westbrooks, and Jordan LeFevre.

Reviews of Legacy will appear in major media publications in the coming months. A current review of the album can be found at SGMusicForum.com.

The group is currently being booked by the Parker Agency. More information on how to book the LeFevre Quartet can be found at http://www.parkermusicgroup.net/artists/mikelefevre.htm.

Eric Dove Takes Time Off

Arden, NC (Press Release) – Eric Dove, the baritone for the Dove Brothers, has decided to take some time off from the road. He made the decision at NQC after contemplating for over a year the need to spend more time with his family.

“Eric feels that this is the right way to meet his family’s needs at this time.” Eric’s brother McCray stated. “We are in complete support of his decision. Lance Jeffery is now singing the baritone…but Eric will be making special appearances from time to time. Eric remains an integral part of the Dove Brothers and is still involved in song selection, staging, and all other quartet decisions. He is helping all he can from at home.”

“Our new baritone is Lance Jeffery.” McCray reports “Lance is 23 years old and loves people. He is already becoming a great asset to the Dove Brothers ministry and really connects well with the younger folks in our audiences. Although Lance has never sung in a quartet before…his addition has made it possible for Eric to take some time away.”

SGMG

In 1986, several Southern Gospel music leaders decided the industry needed an organization to foster the growth of the Southern Gospel music genre. Through the years, the Guild has grown to include every facet of the Southern Gospel music industry, encompassing artists (full-time and part-time), record companies, radio, promoters, publishers, distributors, talent management, media representatives, and booking agents.

Looking beyond the needs of today, the Guild hopes to affect the future of the industry. Through communication and education, we hope to significantly impact the image and awareness of Southern Gospel music for generations to come. This is accomplished by a variety of means: getting Southern Gospel music introduced to new audiences and promoting quality and professionalism within the industry.

By working together we can learn how to better utilize our skills. Through extensive, persistent efforts, we can increase the visibility of and appreciation for our music, thereby touching tomorrow....today.”

Les Butler New Director of Business Operations for Singing News

Les Butler of Family Music Group, Butler Music Group and Solid Gospel Radio, has accepted the position as the new Director of Business Operations for the Singing News Magazine. He will begin duties effective November 1, 2005.

Butler says: "I was offered an opportunity that I would have never expected in my entire life. As with every change that’s happened in my life, I attacked it with much prayer and fasting. Actually, I’ve never prayed about any move in my life, as much as I have this one. Just ask my wife, she’ll tell you about my early morning prayer sessions, sleepless nights, etc. Simply stated, this has been the most difficult decision in my professional life."

After 27 years as a DJ, Butler says his work will now entail ways of growing the Singing News subscriber base and accelerating the growth of southern gospel music. He adds: "I will also be working through ways to bring synergy between the Singing News and the Solid Gospel radio network and those plans will be more fully announced in the days ahead. In addition, I will still be on the air, part-time, hosting weekend mid-days on Solid Gospel."

The Family Music Group and Butler Music Group labels will be retired.

We will post more information as we receive it.

Dove Brothers Quartet’s Latest Recording Is Anything But Ordinary

image
BLADENBORO, North Carolina – The Southern Gospel industry is all abuzz about the latest recording from one of the industry’s most awarded artists – the Dove Brothers Quartet. The new album, entitled Anything But Ordinary…Everything But Typical, showcases new melodic hooks and musical backgrounds coupled with the group’s trademark traditional roots.

Produced by popular producer Jeff Collins, Anything But Ordinary…Everything But Typical shows a new side to the group. Stretching themselves into solid country musical elements and vocal arrangements, the Dove Brothers Quartet has expanded its sound to reach a broader audience, and in turn, find the group’s own unique voice in the Southern Gospel market. The new album is being released nationally by Sonlite Records and is the group’s 10th career recording.

“We felt like it was time for the Dove Brothers to create our own identity in the Southern Gospel music industry,” mentioned McCray Dove. “Even though we are known for bringing a lot of the older songs back, we wanted to show a different side of the Dove Brothers Quartet and show the industry that we are very capable of turning out new music that is fresh and original.”

McCray continued, “We already had the Statesmen and Blackwoods, and they left a great mark and standard for us to build upon. Now, we feel it is time for us to leave our mark on the industry that will be a standard other groups can learn from and benefit from as we have done in the past. With this recording we wanted the music to be more progressive and the vocal arrangements to still be within the traditional aspect, but also having a fresh approach as well.”

The album’s debut single, the title cut, is already showing strong signs of success. The single is currently the #1 New Release on the Singing News Top 80 Chart for November 2005 and is sitting at #17 on the SouthernGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart, #8 on the SGUSA Weekly Countdown, and #38 on the U.S. Gospel News Top 100 Chart.

Critics and industry leaders have already started praising the latest album from the Dove Brothers Quartet:

"One way to gauge how successful a recording can potentially be is by how many new fans it can win over. I believe this newest recording by the DBQ could really win over some new fans (who otherwise would not have listened to the DBQ), while not even remotely alienating the ones they already have. This is a landmark recording for the DBQ and is a totally extraordinary, atypical piece of work!"
--James Hales, Staff Writer, SouthernGospelNews.com

"As McCray Dove said on [The Gospel Greats program], many folks have come to think of his group as the quartet that can really bring back the old quartet songs of yesteryear. But this new recording -- which includes all new songs -- shows that the Dove Brothers aren't stuck in the past. Their sound is as fresh and alive as any quartet out there today."
--Paul Heil, The Gospel Greats

“The Dove Brothers Quartet have another homerun with this new album. It’s a breath of fresh air in an already crowded quartet arena. This will no doubt win over many new fans to not only their group, but also to the entire genre.”
--Deon Unthank, Owner, SouthernGospelNews.com

“When it comes to traditional male quartets, they just don’t come any better than the Dove Brothers. McCray and Eric Dove have established their quartet as a role-model for any quartet desiring to continue the legacy of traditional quartet music from the early years. You can’t go wrong with a recording by the Dove Brothers for your Gospel music collection of quartets. I recommend this one! You’ll be blessed.”
--Sandi Duncan Clark, Staff Writer, SGMusicForum.com

“I had the honor of sitting in the studio while the Dove Brothers recorded vocals for their latest CD. What impressed me then and continues to impress me now that I've heard the finished product is McCray Dove's determination to create a bold new sound for his group. With a blend of upbeat lyrics, great male quartet harmony, and a music bed inspired by modern Country music, I believe he's accomplished precisely what he set out to do.”
--David Bruce Murray, Staff Writer, SouthernGospelNews.com & Musicscribe.com

"What can I say about the Dove Brothers except, “I love these guys!” I have had the privilege to work with them many times, and I have never been disappointed. They are the same off stage as they are on stage and their consistency never wavers. This new project is no exception to the quality that they possess.”
--U.S. Gospel News

The LeFevre Quartet Debuts on National Scene

image
NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Mike LeFevre is proud to announce the forming of the LeFevre Quartet. Mike is excited about carrying on one of the most respected names in all of Gospel music with The LeFevre Quartet – a group of dedicated Christian men that have come together to form a unique but traditional Southern Gospel sound.

The LeFevre name has long been regarded as one of the finest names in all of Gospel music – known for musical excellence and personal integrity. Building on that rich tradition, the new LeFevre Quartet brings incomparable harmony to audiences along with brand new original music that is appealing to those who never knew of such an enduring legacy. The LeFevre Quartet is the first Southern Gospel group to carry on the LeFevre name in over 30 years.

Mike LeFevre is no stranger to Gospel music, most notably known for his time spent as the baritone of such groups as Gold City and Brian Free & Assurance. Joining LeFevre on the lead is David Staton. David is also a well known songwriter, having songs recorded by Gold City, The Kingsmen, and Jeff & Sheri Easter, including the # 1 song "There Is A Way" and the Grammy nominated song "Every Knee Shall Bow." Stacy Bragg is singing bass for the new group. Stacy is most remembered as the bass singer for Hovie Lister & The Statesmen Quartet during the 1990s. The tenor position is filled by Stephen Sigmon. Stephen has extensive classical music training and holds a B.A. in music, but his passion is for Southern Gospel music.

At the piano is Mike Westbrooks. Mike’s roots in Gospel music go back to a young ten year old singing tenor for his family, the Westbrooks – as well as time spent with the Anchormen and Felicia Shiflett & Liberty. Mike LeFevre's son, Jordan LeFevre, is the youngest member of the group at 14 years old. He uses his gift playing drums as if he were a seasoned veteran.

The LeFevre Quartet’s debut recording is entitled Legacy, and it was recorded and distributed nationally by Song Garden Music Group. The album was produced by Nick Bruno & Robbie Hiner.

Judy Nelon said, “The LeFevre legacy continues with the new and exciting LeFevre Quartet's entrance into the Southern Gospel Music scene. How thrilled I am with the opening of their song that resurrected an old cut from the LeFevres’ recording of ‘I Love Him So’ which at the beginning features the bass voice of Rex Nelon and then takes off with the current group of great singers. Now I really do like that. I know that Rex and the others would be proud of this group of young men that are carrying on the tradition started over 50 years ago. Take a listen, and I promise you will not be disappointed with this new group of LeFevres. Congratulations on a fine recording of songs and blessings on success for the kingdom of God.”

Les Butler of Solid Gospel said “Mike gave me a copy of the new LeFevre Quartet album at NQC this year. I had 100 or more CDs given to me at NQC this year. I wanted to get a head start by listening to as many CDs as possible on the drive back to Nashville. The LeFevere Quartet album was the first CD I put in the player. Crossroads Releases Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver DVD ‘Through The Years’

image
Arden, NC (Press Release) – Grammy® nominated Bluegrass legend Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver have released a DVD that takes you back through time, for a glimpse of Bluegrass evolution over the last 25 years with the various incarnations of DL&Q that have changed the face of this lively music. The DVD is called ‘Through The Years’ and is scheduled for release on November 15th.

The DVD features 32 songs from across the 13 variations of Quicksilver recorded before a live audience at the War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Doyle Lawson was on stage for 5 hours that night as the previous members came up to join him for each song, they traveled through 25 years of Bluegrass music history. The DVD allows the viewer to see how Doyle helped each player develop by adding their individual special talents to DL&Q, while preserving a sound that was uniquely Quicksilver. ‘Through The Years’ illustrates how they shaped the course of modern Bluegrass. “We had been after Doyle to do a concert like this for a long time,” Doyle’s wife Suzanne comments. “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him to take part in this musical tribute and create this DVD.”

“I jokingly tell folks that Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver is the "farm team" for bluegrass…eventually we started calling it the Bluegrass School of Music.” Doyle remarks. Past alumni from the DL&Q school are: Russell Moore, Ray Deaton, Jim Mills, John Bowman, Barry Abernathy, Steve Gulley, Lou Reid, Jimmy Haley, Scott Vestal, Jimmy Van Cleve, Hunter Berry and current members Barry Scott, Jamie Dailey and Terry Baucom.

By way of these men Doyle Lawson’s influence stretches out into groups like IIIrd Tyme Out, Mountain Heart, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, the Lonesome River Band and Blue Highway. Nominated for seven 2005 International Bluegrass Music Awards, DL&Q have recently graduated yet another musician from the school. Jesse Stockman, Doyle’s former fiddler, has made the move to Southern Gospel music by joining the Issacs. Lawson comments, “We wish Jesse the best with the Isaacs and are happy to welcome back Mike Hartgrove.”

After much success with the title track from their current secular project, ‘You Gotta Dig A Little Deeper’, the man who pioneered Bluegrass Gospel is now in the studio working on a new gospel CD to be released by Crossroads in February 2006. DL&Q have actually made many more gospel recordings than secular ones and feel that there is no better message than the message of Jesus Christ.

Standard Publishing Announces Exclusive Partnership With Children’s Storybook Creator Eddy Bolton

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Standard Publishing is pleased to announce the exclusive partnership with Eddy Bolton and will introduce a delightful new line of children's stories entitled, The Adventures of Bailey and Canteen, which are slated to release in 2006.

"Standard Publishing is excited about the newly-formed partnership with Eddy Bolton," said Darrell Lewis, Vice President of Marketing, Standard Publishing. "We pride ourselves in being a leader in children's Bible storybooks, and we believe the stories in this series will capture the hearts and imaginations of boys and girls everywhere."

Bolton is equally happy about joining with Standard Publishing, "...Without a doubt, God directed me to Standard Publishing. Their vision for the concept and their staff's Godly-influenced direction and guidance has proven to be more than I had ever imagined. Now with over a year and a half behind us since our first meeting, and after reaching an agreement, together we have experienced many wonderful exchanges."

With over 30 years of experience as a songwriter, performer and music industry veteran, Bolton's expertise and creative approach inspired him to write his first children's story, and these ideas have developed into what has now become The Adventures of Bailey and Canteen. His resume includes a stint with the legendary Speer Family (Speer's), appearances on the popular Grapevine Opry with The Masters Four Quartet, as well as, acting as A&R Director for the Nashville-based Wright Music.

These one-of-a-kind, adventure stories, each with a music CD, allow children to interact with the story as they sing along to the songs that accompany each one. The stories in the series are about a little cowboy named Bailey and his best friend, a pony named Canteen. Readers will be able to watch the stories unfold as the characters come to life through Bolton's eyes as each of the stories are told in a fun, relevant way that appeal to children of all ages. Bolton's love for children and horses (and the bond between them), combined with the great outdoors is the basis of the stories in this new series. The first three Bible storybook titles, Canyon Rescue, Lost and Found, and Shelter from the Storm, are scheduled to release in August 2006.

"My desire and excitement about the series is expressed as I present each new adventure of Bailey and Canteen. It is not science fiction, but is about a little boy, loving God, loving and obeying his parents, loving nature and about his very special friends and companions," said Bolton. "I want children to envision themselves experiencing these adventures, just as I remember acting out the stories I read as a boy. I want them to be natural and believable. More than anything else, I want them to know that God is their best friend, and he loves them and that he is ever mindful of their lives and experiences."

Standard Publishing is teaming up with Bolton to unveil an entire product line consisting of, but not limited to, hardback and softcover books with CDs, containing narrated stories and music, which is also written by Bolton. In addition, there will be coloring and activity books along with plush characters included in the launch of this series.

For more information about the Bailey and Canteen series, or to set up an interview with creator Eddy Bolton or Darrell Lewis, Vice President of Marketing, Standard Publishing, contact McCabe Media at , or call 513-604-6720.

Tim Surrett Pursuing Solo Ministry

image
Arden, NC – Southern Gospel favorite, Tim Surrett has announced the decision to leave the Kingsmen in pursuit of a solo ministry. Surrett, who has suffered from Acid Reflux Disease over the last two years sites health, a need for less travel and time to pursue other areas of ministry as his reasons for leaving.

Tim was diagnosed with the disease two years ago. Last January he underwent surgery in an attempt to control the condition. Like an athlete that continues activity after injury, the singing schedule he has kept over the last year has aggravated his condition. Tim states, “There is nothing wrong with my voice. My condition combined with a busy schedule has created a need for some time off. I’m taking the fall off and will be ready to start my solo ministry in January. I’ll be using this time to heal, rest my voice, work on my new project and get the solo ministry off the ground.”

The new project is already in the tracking phases at Crossroads studios with a release expected in the first quarter of 2006. Tim Surrett & Jeff Collins are co-producing the project. Jeff is playing piano and Tim is playing bass. Other players include David Johnson and Tony Creasman.

Tim feels God has worked this altogether for a bright new future, “This whole thing that maybe looks bad is actually really good because it affords me the time to sing, hunt and spend time with my family.”

So what will the new ministry be like? Expect it to be…well…Tim! There are not many opera trained dobro players in the world of Southern Gospel music and Tim is looking forward to having the opportunity to present a little bit of everything. “I’m excited about all the different types of music.” he stated. “It will be a hybrid of all the things I love.” A typical concert will feature Tim on stage playing a live instrument and singing to tracks, “It’s a one man show! I will be playing a lot of the instruments on the tracks and singing the harmonies as well as playing an instrument and singing live. I am really looking forward to spending time in churches. There is something special about that.”

Tim expects to continue on with producing his DVD’s featuring southern gospel artists on hunting and fishing trips, the first of which features Tim, Archie Watkins and Mark Bishop. “I’d like to give the guys a little something different at their local Christian bookstores.” he comments.

Tim is now accepting bookings with dates starting in January. To book Tim Surrett, call his office at 828-648-8905. His new solo ministry website will be up soon. The address is http://www.timsurrett.com .

Tim ends with, “I am very blessed. People have been very supportive…I have received so many calls from people telling me that they are praying for me. Please continue to pray for me as I undertake this new venture.”

Hope’s Call Is Singing Heaven’s Song On Latest Radio Release

Group’s Current Single Sees Much Out of the Box Success

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Hope’s Call, one of Southern Gospel’s most exciting trios, has recently been greeted with the news that their latest single, “Singing Heaven’s Song,” has seen numerous amounts of early radio success around the country.

“Singing Heaven’s Song” came in at #7 on the Singing News Top 10 New Releases for the upcoming November chart, and it ranked at #1 on U.S. Gospel News’ Top 5 New Releases for the October chart.

The traditional styling of “Singing Heaven’s Song” shows that diversity is key with this group who sings everything from edgy progressive tunes to songs from the church hymnal as reflected in the new a cappella CD, Beyond the Music: An A Cappella Collection.

Donna Beauvais of Hope’s Call shares, "We sing to a variety of people, and we feel strongly that because of that we need to sing a variety of music! We enjoy watching the expressions on people's faces as they clap along with this convention style SG tune. They seem to enjoy it and the message it provides. We want to minister first and foremost, and we would love to tear down some walls and bring people together in the church and in concert settings. We would love for parents and grandparents to be able to take their children and/or grandchildren on a Christian music concert outing or church event and have all age groups come away having enjoyed their time together and their time of worship with the Lord! We are very excited about the reaction to 'Singing Heaven's Song.' Truly God is blessing our ministry in ways we could not have imagined. We pray it will reflect straight to Him and in souls for His kingdom."

Deon Unthank of SouthernGospelNews.com said “I’ve been after Hope’s Call for months to release their traditional Southern Gospel song, and now they finally have. This group has some of the closest harmony in Gospel Music today, and it’s not wasted on this song. They sing this upbeat song and make it sound like Southern Gospel is supposed to sound.”

“Singing Heaven’s Song” was written by Depp Britt, and it features stripped down production work that accents the piano workings of Gordon Mote, who’s current single, “I Catch ‘Em, God Cleans ‘Em” is currently eating up the Southern Gospel airwaves around the country.

“Singing Heaven’s Song” can be found on the Heritage Communications August Compilation disc, Cut #3, and it will also soon be available on Daywind Compilation 62.

“Singing Heaven’s Song” comes on the heels of the group’s break-out hit, “You Are Loved.” “You Are Loved” peaked at #11 on the Singing News Top 80, #9 on the U.S. Gospel News Top 100, #3 on the SouthernGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart (where it continues to remain in the Top 20 after 30 weeks on the chart), #3 on the SGUSA Top 20 Weekly Countdown, #1 on the American Christian Music Journal’s Top Southern Gospel Tracks & Singles chart, as well as Top 20 status on TheSouthernGospel.com and SGMusicForum.com’s monthly charts.

The group also released their highly anticipated a cappella recording this summer. Beyond the Music: An A Cappella Collection was produced by critically acclaimed producer, Kevin Ward, as well as group members Donna Beauvais, Eddie Harrison, and Jessica Harrison. All of the songs have been arranged by popular studio musician Jason Webb, as well Kevin Ward, Donna Beauvais, and Eddie & Jessica Harrison. The new album is being distributed to Christian bookstores all across the United States through New Day Distribution.
