Carolyn Reese Seriously Ill

Ray Reese, owner and bass singer for the Kingsmen Quartet, asks for your prayers for his wife, Carolyn. Many of you already know about her fall on May 9, which resulted in serious injuries and major surgeries. She has already had a bout with pneumonia and several other infections but now has developed a staph infection and is in isolation. There was a very critical period last evening which was alarming to the entire Reese/Kingsmen family. Those of you who know Carolyn know her as a vivacious, beautiful woman and she has certainly had a real fight these last two and a half months....the Bible tells us to pray for one another and we are certainly asking that you bring her before the Lord at this desperate time.

National Quartet Convention Announces Syndication Of Event!

The Board of Directors of the National Quartet Convention has just announced the open syndication of their annual event held each September in Louisville, KY. Syndication rights for the radio broadcast have been signed with Salem Music Network, home of the Solid Gospel Network which has broadcast the event to its affiliate base each of the past 10 years. September 11th - 16th, 2006, are the dates for this year's convention.

This marks the first time nightly broadcasts from the main stage will be available to all stations (on a market exclusive basis) via satellite syndication. Stations will have the option to carry all six nights or individual nights as they choose. Adding to the featured performances each night, stations authorized to carry the show will also be able to air the annual "Singing News Fan Awards" presented during the Thursday evening concert. It's southern gospel music's highest award as voted on by the fans.

Each evening's programming starts with the "Roundtable", featuring interviews and spirited discussions from the artists who will be performing that night on stage, as well as a sprinkling of pioneers & "Southern Gospel Music's Hall of Fame" members from the southern gospel music world. That hour is hosted by Jim Black & Les Butler and airs right up to the start of the evening performances. The nightly broadcast will be hosted by veteran Solid Gospel mid-day host, Greg Goodman.

The National Quartet Convention, now in its 50th year, is the "Grand Daddy" of all the southern gospel music concerts. Clarke Beasley, Executive Vice President of NQC stated, "This is precedent setting for the Convention. We are excited about adding new stations that are interested in bringing this outstanding week of music, showcases and interviews 'live' from the 2006 event. This really opens up the radio world to participate and provide great programming for the local listener."

Salem Music Network will, again this year, provide the talent and satellite services for the syndication. The satellite delivery will be available on both Unity 4000 or Starguide receivers. There is a fee for the broadcast rights.

Stations interested in adding the National Quartet Convention to their fall broadcast lineup should contact Jim Black @ or call 615-850-7023.

Crystal River Excites Festival Crowd

Crystal River performed live at Hills Alive Christian Festival in Rapid City, South Dakota. They performed with several CCM artists such as: Third Day, Newsboys, Mark Shultz, Natalie Grant and many others. There were over 30,000 people who attended the weekend event this year. “We were so honored to be invited to Hills Alive. We didn’t know how the crowd would respond to Southern Gospel, but they absolutely loved it! We didn’t change anything in our program. What was so refreshing is that so many young people were buying our music and telling us how much they enjoyed our ministry. We didn’t have a CD left in our racks when we were done” states Zack McGill of Crystal River

Mark Pluimer, General Manager of Radio Stations KSLT-FM, KLMP-FM and The Point, sponsors of the event said, "The music at Hills Alive over the years has run from light Adult Contemporary to Hard Rock. In 21 years, we have never had a Southern Gospel Group perform. We wanted to give it a try this year to test the response. Knowing the guys in Crystal River, I felt they were the group to help us test the waters. The response to Crystal River was very positive! The audience warmed up to Crystal River right away - they were thoroughly entertaining! Crystal River has helped to open the door to Southern Gospel Music on the main stage at Hills Alive!"

Crystal River is quickly making a name for themselves. This year they have been nominated for Horizon Group Of The Year and have been added to many of the nation’s top concert venues. The Isaacs and Vietti Chili Team Up

FRESH MUSIC NOW AVAILABLE IN THE CANNED GOODS AISLE

NASHVILLE, TN (JULY 18, 2006) — Savvy grocers are now stocking the canned goods aisle with fresh, homegrown music. By linking two Nashville phenomena, the fresh taste of Vietti Chili and the fresh sounds of emerging Music City artists, the Vietti Vinyl promotional campaign leads shoppers to an original crop of hand-picked music when they purchase All Natural Vietti Chili in attractive new labels.

Venerable Vietti Foods Company, Inc. simultaneously spotlights various rising musicians on millions of its Vietti Chili cans and features downloadable music on its newly-launched website, http://www.viettivinyl.com/. The site’s current crop of artists includes John Corbett, Cherryholmes, Riders In The Sky, The Warren Brothers, Pat Flynn, The Grascals and The Isaacs.

“Vietti Vinyl gives voice to musicians, who, like Vietti Chili, have emerged from the local scene but may be overshadowed by larger marketing budgets and a famous name,” said Philip Connelly, president and chief executive of Vietti Foods, Inc. “The Vietti Vinyl web site gives consumers a chance to spice up their music collection and sample sounds that they may not hear in the mainstream while experiencing their chili on a whole new level.”

In the national market for canned chili dominated by faceless public companies designing products for mass appeal, bold and flavorful All Natural Vietti Chili asserts its place as the feisty challenger. Loyal to its passionate regional consumer following, the relatively small, but fast-growing Vietti Foods Company has transformed from sleepy manufacturer to pioneering marketer, giving All Natural Vietti Chili new relevance in the marketplace.

The Vietti Vinyl campaign seeks to carve out a piece of brand awareness through digital music, an industry projected to grow from $601 million in 2005 to $4.5 billion in 2008 (Forrester Research). With the established link between music and memory impacting purchase decisions, the ability to capture even a small fraction of this market could boost the fortunes of a brand. The Vietti Vinyl campaign has future tie-ins in the offing, including events like sweepstakes, cook-offs, tastings, local concerts, sponsorship of The Grand Ole Opry and support of charitable events.

The Hoppers Biography To Be Released

image
MADISON, NC - The much-anticipated biography of America’s Favorite Family of Gospel Music, the Hoppers, will soon be available. In the works for more than two years, After All These Years, the Authorized Biography of the Hoppers, a handsome, illustrated hardback, will be nationally released at the 2006 National Quartet Convention, on September 11 - 16th, 2006.
In the account, author F. Keith Davis takes the reader on colorful adventures, beginning with Confederate soldier William Archer Hopper, to the post war years of family life, tobacco farming and forging out a living in rural Rockingham County, NC.

“This is the story of an American family—a wonderful and complex Christian family—who are concerned with living out their faith with poise and integrity. It is with great delight that we offer this book to the Southern Gospel fans,” said Tim Fortune, of Woodland Gospel Publishing, publisher of the book.

As the years are documented, the story soon locks in on the Hopper Brothers, and shares how Connie Shelton joined the group, and later married Claude. Readers will be travel through the decades and experience the obstacles, valleys and triumphs that this family has experienced. The book follows the Hoppers on the road as one of the nation’s most enduring Southern Gospel groups. There are also many rare and personal photos of the family from their beginnings in 1950 to today.

Dr. John Hagee wrote the foreword, and Dr. Charles F. Stanley penned the introduction to the biography.

“We’re all excited about the release of this book, and we hope our lives and experiences will somehow encourage others,” Claude Hopper said.

The Hoppers have established a Southern Gospel legacy over the last half-century. After All These Years, the Authorized Biography of the Hoppers is their story.

(Goodlettsville, TN) – The Eddie Crook Company received the following e-mail from Ellen Keaton of the Gospel Tide on the update of Larry Keaton’s shoulder surgery. “Just wanted to let each of you know that Larry came through the surgery fine. Unfortunately, the rotator cuff was torn and had to be sewn. There were also a number of bone spurs and one of them had grown into the bicep muscle and in the Doctors words..."the bicep muscle was pretty torn up". The Doctor was able to clean up all the bone spurs and repair all the damage. The recovery period will be longer than we had hoped for due to the rotator cuff tear. Larry will be in a sling for at least eight weeks and total recovery and rehab is expected to be three and half to four months. He has been feeling pretty good the last couple of days...of course the arm is very sore. Continue to keep him in your prayers.”

Former Melody Masters Qt Members Form Carolina Quartet

Long-time friends Scott Whitener and Chris Roberts have announced the formation of the Carolina Quartet (http://www.carolinaquartet.com), beginning a new chapter in their 10-plus-years musical collaboration that began with the Melody Masters Quartet in the mid-1990s and continued with MMQ Reunion concerts through 2005. The quartet will perform concerts on a limited schedule throughout the year, featuring appearances at churches, denominational and civic events, banquets, and private functions.

Chris states, "The name is a clear reflection of who we are and who our main audience will be. We are 'Carolinians,' and our primary audience will be listeners throughout North and South Carolina." Scott adds, "There was a Carolina Quartet established in the greater Asheville, NC area decades ago. With the Kingsmen Quartet (formerly the Carolina Boys) clearly re-established and doing so well, we felt it was time to re-establish the Carolina Quartet as a regional group." While the vast majority of the quartet's appearances will be in the Carolinas, they will not limit their touring geographically and plan to make limited appearances in other southeastern states.

Roger Burnett, who sang with the Melody Masters from the early 1990s and bass singer Lamar Levi of Tuxedo, NC, along with Chris Roberts and Scott Whitener will provide the CQ sound. David Bruce Murray, Minister of Music at Corinth Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC, will also be making limited appearances with the Carolina Quartet.

The CQ plans to release a project of southern and country gospel classics in the fall of 2006.

More information on the Carolina Quartet will be available soon at http://www.carolinaquartet.com
