Cliff Cerce of the Cerces Hospitalized – Group Doesn’t Miss a Beat
It all started when The Cerces were contacted by the Country Gospel Music Association which had become aware of the group. The next thing they knew, The Cerces received a membership certificate for the wall and a letter welcoming them to the association in the mail. A little confused, group manager Cliff Cerce called them to learn what fees were involved - only to learn that they were being extended a membership, with fees waived, to this association which boasts 4200 world-wide members.
The Cerces were invited to the Central Division's annual convention, which was held in Watertown, Wisconsin this past July. The group, which had just gone full-time on July 1st, sang night after night in the convention and also each night at the jam sessions. The group was surprised to learn that, regardless of the Association's name, the artists sang a mixture of traditional Southern Gospel, Inspirational, and Contemporary music, as well as Country Gospel.
Members there voted for the recipients for their annual rewards at the end of the week, and two big surprises came Saturday the final night. The Cerces’ lead singer, Andy Fauth, received the highest reward given by the Association to a male - the "2006 Full-Time Male Vocalist" Award. And, for the second surprise, Cliff noticed that his right leg was painful and red, swelling quickly and hot to the touch from the ankle to the knee.
Someone there knowledgeable about spider bites saw the clearly identifiable
two marks left by the bite, right at the base of the swelling and redness. A nurse that was there recommended some over the counter medicines they could get at WalMart that could possible help the situation, and The Cerces left the convention at 11:30 pm Saturday night, bound for their Sunday morning concert in Illinois 400 miles away.
Sometime after the morning concert, on the group’s way back to their headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, Cliff's temperature rose, and he began to become delirious. He was taken to the hospital after they arrived in Springfield with a 105.8 degree fever and blood pressure dangerous low, with a 36 reading on the bottom. Blood poisoning had already set in, and he spent two days in ICU, finally leaving the hospital after four days. Cliff had received cellulitis (a staph infection, also known as the "flesh-eating bacteria") from a cut he got on a canoe trip over a dozen years ago, which was then cleared up with a few weeks of antibiotics. However, the spider venom re-energized the old dormant cellulitis in his system (it always remains) - and he had a double-whammy of the spider poison and the staph infection.
Cerce spent the next four weeks in bed, sneaking out of bed to do 9 concerts - 4 of them in Iowa.
Finally, the leg healed in the fourth week, and the group was off to Alabama for a great weekend without incident. The fifth week included four concerts within a hundred mile radius of their home base, but Cliff noticed that his right lower leg had become discolored and was appearing purplish. After the Saturday night concert, a nine hour return trip to the hospital confirmed that the cellulitis and staph infection had returned, so he was released now on a double-course of antibiotics for the next 20 days to make sure that this adventure is finally set to rest.
Still, The Cerces met every concert obligation during this ordeal without a hitch, and Cliff is almost 100% - and raring to go. Since Anita, Cliff's wife, was initially told by the hospital staff that he might not make it, the group is thankful to God for His mercy to them and for what appears to be a soon complete recovery.
Prayers are appreciated for Cliff as he makes a full recovery.

The Isaacs Featured On Vietti Chili Cans

“Vietti Vinyl gives voice to musicians, who, like Vietti Chili, have emerged from the local scene but may be overshadowed by larger marketing budgets and a famous name,” said Philip Connelly, president and chief executive of Vietti Foods, Inc. “The Vietti Vinyl web site gives consumers a chance to spice up their music collection and sample sounds that they may not hear in the mainstream, while experiencing their chili on a whole new level.”
In the national market for canned chili dominated by faceless public companies designing products for mass appeal, bold and flavorful All Natural Vietti Chili asserts its place as the feisty challenger. Loyal to its passionate regional consumer following, the relatively small, but fast-growing Vietti Foods Company has transformed from sleepy manufacturer to pioneering marketer, giving All Natural Vietti Chili new relevance in the marketplace.
The Vietti Vinyl campaign seeks to carve out a piece of brand awareness through digital music, an industry projected to grow from $601 million in 2005 to $4.5 billion in 2008 (Forrester Research). The Vietti Vinyl campaign has future tie-ins in the offing, including events like sweepstakes, cook-offs, tastings, local concerts, sponsorship of The Grand Ole Opry and support of charitable events.
“We are honored to be a part of this campaign,” states Lily Isaacs, matriarch of The Isaacs. “It’s quite a thrill for us, and we appreciate Mr Connelly and the entire Vietti Company for allowing us with this opportunity.”
Vietti Foods Company, Inc., a 108 year-old Nashville manufacturer and marketer of products including Vietti Chili, is a subsidiary of Choice Food Group. Choice Food Group specializes in wholesale food service distribution of broad line products through Choice Food Distributors, Inc., and the manufacturing and marketing of food products through Vietti Foods Company, Inc. and Choice Food of America, Inc.

Urgent Prayer Request from Psalm 101
We just received this from Angela Fulkerson of Psalm 101. Please remember Bill in your prayers!-----------
Bill, my husband who sings and plays guitar, fell 20 feet from a roof top yesterday. He is alive and stable. He fell face down onto concrete. The paramedics, ER & trauma doctors all say it's a miracle he survived. He remains in the trauma unit at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, FL suffering from a broken heel, knee cap, wrist, nose and two other facial fractures, along with several lacerations and severe bruising. All tests so far show NO INTERNAL INJURIES and NO NECK, BACK or SPINAL Injuries! Doctors say it will be a long, hard process to restore him. He is unable to walk at this time because of both legs being fractured. It is difficult for him to speak due to the severe blow to his mouth and he is experiencing high pain levels. The wrist was broken so badly the bone punctured the skin so they immediately performed surgery and put in a metal plate with screws.
Several churches informed us they had special prayer for Bill tonight, Wed night...and from 7:30pm - 9pm he suddenly started showing improvement...and was able to sit up on the side of the bed for 10 min and drink some fluids. So, if we could get some folks to continue praying for him ...I know God can work a miracle and give him a speedy recovery.
It so happens we had just started our 3 week vacation...from our concert schedule. Our concert schedule starts back Sept 1st. As far as we know now, our concerts within our local area will continue. Bill told me ...he did not want me to cancel. He wants me to do the concerts solo. He said, he may not be able to sing or play the guitar for a while...but if he can ...he will be right there mashing the "play" button on the tracks for me.
We would appreciate everyone's prayers as we go through this trial. I know "All things work together for good for them that love the Lord" We have completed the brand new CD. We are waiting on graphics and print. We are praying about which song to release to radio first...we hope to make a decision in the next few days. God has called us to sing and share our testimonies of His wonderful saving grace and protection in our life and the devil is trying his best to fight every ministry he can. However, the Bible says, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous BUT God will deliver them out of them all." I know God has something good planned down the road from this trial and it's gonna be "Worth The Wait!"
Sincerely,
Angela Fulkerson

Sondra Burnett Scores Two Simultaneous Top 40 Hits

The songs included on the Top 40 chart include “Everything I Wanted” at #33 and “One Day Closer” at #39. Both of the singles are included on Sondra's critically acclaimed album Family Reunion.
“I am just absolutely thrilled to have two songs in the Top 40 like this,” mentioned Sondra Burnett. “I have to thank radio for playing my song and thanks to my fans for voting for me. This is truly an honor!”
“This is a strong testament to how great an album Family Reunion is,” mentioned Deon Unthank, owner of SouthernGospelNews.com. “It is very rare for an artist to earn two top 40 singles at one time, let alone a rising artist like Sondra. We are very proud of her and this great achievement.”
Both singles have been serviced to Southern Gospel radio through Family Music Group.
Burnett is no stranger to Southern Gospel radio as she quickly made a name for herself in 2003 with the release of hit singles like “I Can Tell You the Time”, “It's Alright”, and “It's Me Again, Lord”. All three singles were charting hits on charts like the SouthernGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart, Singing News Top 80, U.S. Gospel News Top 100, Powersource Magazine Top 100, and the American Christian Music Top Southern Gospel Tracks and Singles.
Burnett's Family Reunion was recorded at Upfront Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. The project was engineered by Terry Thompson. Sondra wrote two of the 12 tracks on Family Reunion – “He’s Alive” and “He Came to Me.”
Sondra was nominated for an American Christian Music Award in 2005 for Favorite Female Southern Gospel Artist.

The Anchormen and Oak Ridge Boys in God and Country Jamboree
The Firefighter’s of Catawba County proudly presents the 2nd Annual Catawba Valley God and Country Jamboree, with Legendary Country Music artists THE OAK RIDGE BOYS and Gospel Greats THE ANCHORMEN, on Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 5:30.p.m. at the Multi- Purpose Complex on the Campus of Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, North Carolina. The Firefighter’s of Catawba County feel that it is time for the Catawba County Firefighter’s Association to give something back to the citizens of Catawba County.. With a portion of the proceeds of this fundraiser, if successful, would be used to start a Relief Fund for families here in Catawba County that are unfortunate and loose their home and belongings due to a fire at their residence. A designated amount of money will be made available to these families, within 24 hours of the incident. There are programs available that will help a family for a couple of days and after that time is up the families are on their own, and this amount of money will mean a lot to a family that has just lost everything. Here in Catawba County alone in 2005, there were over 100 structure fires that families lost most of their belongings due to fire. This could make a great impact on the citizens of Catawba County knowing help is on the way after a horrific event of a house fire. We feel that this Relief Fund would be very beneficial to the citizens of Catawba County, and is a great way for all Fire Departments in Catawba County to continue to support its great communities and its citizens throughout the county.
Some of the proceeds we will be used to provide continued support to cover the operating expenses of our Firefighter’s museum (1 of 4 in the State of North Carolina), support our Honor Guard, and help with the completion our Firefighter’s Memorial, to honor all that has served in the fire service in Catawba County. We will continue to purchase testing equipment for all of our Fire Departments to use for their annual testing of their fire equipment, which is required by OSHA and NFPA. This is a great expense for each of our Fire Departments to have to purchase individually, and by doing fundraisers lie this all of our Fire Departments in Catawba County have access to this testing equipment. Just like in our past fundraisers we will continue to support other great organizations such as The National Volunteer Fire Council in Washington D.C. that formed a Relief Fund to aid all of the Fire Departments in the Gulf Coast that lost all their Fire Departments and equipment during Hurricane Katrina. As well as the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Tickets are on sale now for $20.00 in Advance and $25.00 the day the event. Tickets maybe purchased by phone with a Visa or MasterCard, by calling 828-431-7831 and follow the instructions, or for any questions you may just leave your name and phone number and someone will get back with you.
Come out and join THE ANCHORMEN and THE OAK RIDGE BOYS for a night of fun and fellowship for all and also helping support a great cause.

Collin Crowe In Youth World Series
Open Letter from John Rulapaugh
Today is both an exciting and sad day for me. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and sad for those I will have to forgo. I have decided that the time is right for me to take some time off from the “full time” quartet circuit and spend more time at home, with my family.Cutting to the chase, it is with great excitement, I announce to you: I will start performing with The Blackwoods on September 1, 2006 at The Black Bear Jamboree here in Pigeon Forge, TN. The Blackwood Breakfast Variety Show runs Tuesday through Sunday at 8:30am from the end of March through December 31. I will also be touring with The Blackwoods during the winter months. I want you to be among the first to know, and it was important to me to tell you myself, rather than have a publicist relay the message through a press release (which is forthcoming).
Let me back up and give you a little more information to explain my decision. Jennifer and I have recently opened a new business in Sevierville, Tennessee (Vacation Valley Cabin Rentals – http://www.VacationValleyUSA.com ) that will require our full attention if it is going to blossom, and we believe it will. We knew that it would take a lot to get up and running, but I don’t think either of us anticipated just how much time and effort would be required of each of us.
When Jennifer and I moved to East Tennessee four years ago we met Ron and all of The Blackwoods for the first time when we went to visit Jeff Chapman who had just started singing bass for the group. After leaving The Dove Brothers I was looking for employment, and as luck would have it, Ron had just hired a new tenor singer. Since then Ron, Shelley, Winston, and Donna have become great friends to Jennifer and to me, and the door has opened a time or two for me to join them, but the timing was just not right. When the opportunity presented itself this time I knew that I would regret not taking it, and I accepted their invitation to join the group.
If you had asked me recently if I thought I would be writing this letter I would have answered emphatically, “NO!” There are few things that I enjoy more than spending time with you, my friends, at concerts and events across the country. The friendships that we have made over the past ten years are very special. It is amazing how strong the bond between people can be, though they’ve met only a few times.
Kerry and all of the guys who have been members of Palmetto State Quartet since I’ve been there have made my journey with them most enjoyable. My decision to move on is most regrettable because of the most recent addition to the Palmetto State Quartet family, Burman Porter. Burman and I have been the best of friends since our time together with The Dove Brothers Quartet, and we’ve been excited about singing together again. It is with sincere gratitude that I bid farewell to my days traveling with these guys.
There are no “underlying” reasons for my decision as I know timing will cause some to speculate. The simple fact is that this is an opportunity to spend some valuable time with my family during the early years of our daughter Jaydon’s life. It is also an opportunity to add to my resume time spent working in a theater atmosphere with a group bearing the most recognizable name in the history of Gospel Music: The Blackwoods We’ve all heard the adage; time is something you can’t get back.
Thank you for spending your precious time to see and hear me sing over these years that I’ve been traveling. I hope that you will now come and visit Jennifer and me here in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. We look forward to seeing you, our friends, again soon. You can still find me on the web, not only on my website http://www.johnrulapaugh.com but also at http://www.theblackwoods.com
Sincerely Yours,
John Rulapaugh
