The Perrys

HEY GANG!!!!!

I hope this July article finds all of you doing well. We just came off of vacation and are in high gear now. July is a busy month for us and we ask that you please remember us in your prayers as we tour this month.

I want to thank all of you who supported last month's article. It was a lot of fun putting that together and I got a lot of responses to it. I even got a response from old Bill Bailey himself! He wasn't too mad at me!

Please be on the watch for our new album that comes out this month. The release date is July 22. I also hope that you are hearing our new single, "calvary Answers for Me", on the radio. If not, please call and request it! I think you will be blessed by this powerful message of forgiveness. Loren does an awesome job on it and then he and Libbi perform a very powerful duet!!!! I think you will like it!

We have a couple of very special prayer requests this month. We have a good friend, Charles Elliott, who has been diagnosed with cancer. He has been a great friend of the Perrys for many years and we are praying that God will touch him. Also, please remember a great preacher friend of ours, Rev. Dennis Carter. He is a very Godly man and we are praying for a miracle for him as well! rev. Carter has welcomed many groups into his church and has been such a blessing to me personally!

Well, that's it for this month. We love all of you and look forward to seeing you soon!

This is the Day!!!!

"Calvary Answers For Me" is a very powerful song written by Joel Lindsay for the Signature Sound Quartet and included on their debut CD "Stand By Me". Why did The Perry's record this song and then release it as a single? I'm sure it would have been released by SSQ. Is this a "professional ethics" issue which should be addressed?

Hey Chuck, I'm glad you like the song but please don't jump to conclusions! "Professional ethics" were followed very closely in this situation. The Perry's recorded "Calvary Answers For Me" ONLY after Signature Sound said it would not be released as a single. It is very common for different groups to record the same songs -- happens all the time. The two groups have very different audiences and hopefully the message of the song will minister to both.

For the record, I'm not related to nor do I know Chuck Furr. smile Just in case some were wondering.... I know I know - I think the whole world revolves around me. Now to the question at hand.. Chuck? You asked if this was an ethics question that should be addressed. Addressed by who? or whom? As far as I know (and I could be wrong) you're not an industry person. So, as a fan or buyer of the music, I would think you would be more than blessed to hear such a great song performed by some incredible artists...both the Perrys and SSQ. What does it matter to you or to me? Just curious...

I can truly say that this is a very powerful song! I have seen it touch so many peoples lives. Just an example.... A lady came to see us about three months ago who was an acoholic. She was nearly at her witts end that night she said. She came to the alter and God changed her life. One month later she came again to see us, and she said that she had not taken a drink since that night. She has been to see us again, and yes still alcohol free! She said that everytime she heard that song on our cd, she would break down and cry just knowing that Jesus has already paid for her past sins. What i am trying to say is, with a message like that, it would be foolish for anyone to be upset at the fact that two groups have recorded the song! I think everyone should sing the song! What a message!

I've heard both the Perry's and SSQ do this song live and WOW they both do such an excellent job! I'd like to hear both groups do the song at the same time!

Lashay,
I'm sure they could sing it together, but the arrangement is different. SSQ's version is a little more fluid, with the Perrys' version seeming a little choppier. Shane and Doug do some two-part harmony during the second verse, while Loren sings the verses alone. However, he and Libbi really tear down on the bridge though. Both versions have the same tremendous lyrical content though. Both arrangements build up to a great ending. Both versions are evermore delivered to an audience.

Joel Lindsey truly has a gift to be able to pen a message that powerful to be conveyed to audiences all across America. That's just the tip of the iceberg though. He among an elite list when it comes to songwriters (in the Phil Cross, Gerald Crabb, Rodney Griffin, Kyla Rowland league). Thanks for sharing your gift Joel, and thanks to the Perrys and SSQ for knowing the powerful message you convey.

May God continue to richly bless,

Big Fan

The arrangement may be different, but who's saying that it couldn't be done? And bascially I was being sarcastic in some sense, when I said that I'd like to hear them sing it together... referring to the first post... Oh well.

"Calvary Answers For Me" is indeed a great song. However, ALL of the songs on the Perrys new CD are great! I am usually able to pick a favorite right away, but I've had the new CD 3 weeks and still can't decide. (Maybe "I Wish I Could Have Been There" or "His Scars".) Anyway, way to go guys (and Lib)! Another great recording for the Perrys!! We love the Perrys in Allegre, KY!
