We recently bought a Ford Expedition for traveling – after replacing a transmission six months ago in our van, continuing to have problems, and finally ending with transmission fluid spraying all over the trailer on our last road trip, we knew we had to do something soon. God stepped in and did one of those “God things” that He does best and we found ourselves on the road this weekend in our new wheels! We were pulling over for a break and realized there was a knocking noise coming from the back. We had been trying out the stereo in the new vehicle with a Donnie McClurkin CD and had the music so loud, we couldn’t have heard a missile land on top of us! Tim got out and tried to sift around through our stuff, but I wanted to clear everything out all at once! We compromised. We got out of the truck and began to remove our belongings from the back. Duffle bags, a guitar, and some boxes – one by one we took all of the items out until we found the source of the knocking. Sometimes we only have to search a little for sin we need to clear out of our lives, sometimes we have to really sift through our “stuff.”
After hitting a plateau about five or six years ago, I decided to sift. I wanted to go to a higher plane in my faith and was willing to do what I needed to do to get there. I learned this verse: “Search me, oh God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24. I began to recite that verse every time I thought of it. God began to reveal areas that I had not surrendered. I continue to say that verse on a regular basis – He continues to draw me closer to Him by pruning me of things that are not like Christ.
If you are cruising along in life and you begin to hear knocking, remember:
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20 You are lucky enough for the God of the universe to want to spend some time with you!
till next time…
