NQC 2008 Schedule

Well, the NQC board has posted their first list of performers for the 2008 National Quartet Convention.

There's not a whole lot to talk about here in regards to the usual suspects. Brian Free & Assurance moved up to three nights - finally. However, after back to back #1s and being one of the hottest tickets out there today - the NQC still feels the need to only put Karen Peck & New River at two nights. Come on guys - I know the group is owned by a woman - but it is almost 2008. As much as I love the Pfeifers - I'm still confused by the need to put them on for three nights.

Obviously by now most people have heard of the fact that Ernie Haase & Signature Sound and the Gaither Vocal Band have been added back. It's about time. Also making their way back (which should have been added in the press release, IMHO) are the Isaacs - which are the only other artist besides Mark Lowry in the same league as the GVB and EHSSQ.

Also new to the list are two soloists - Janet Paschal and Mark Bishop (two that should have been included last year). Also new this year are Tribute, Soul'd Out Quartet, and the amazingly talented Everyday Driven.

Some obvious missing names are Mike & Kelly Bowling and CrossWay. Also - with the reception they got last year and the buzz they continue to build - there are three big names missing as well - Imperials, King's Heralds, and the Collingsworth Family. Also - as hugely popular as they are - why is Young Harmony not on the list? How come the Galloways are still missing?

Overall there are some really positive changes here, but also some obvious omissions still. The NQC board has a hard time making a schedule that they think will be the best for NQC - and for that I commend them. Hopefully some of the missing names I mentioned here will be added eventually.

In my opinion, Some of the groups you mentioned that are not on the main stage program do not have the talent of the upper tier groups of the industry such as Booth Brothers, Legacy Five, and Gold City. I believe the last press release on Young Harmony indicated they changed their ministry focus to preaching and revivals. NQC main stage should be reserved for the cream-of-the-crop, so to speak. Not that SGM gets much media attention anyways, but if they do decide to take a peak, I would rather have them observe a group that possess great talent, showmanship, creativity and most of all annointing. Again just my opinion

weatherbob's avatar I'm glad to see the Freemans are on the Main Stage again this year! I think they should get at least 2 nights, as Chris Freeman is a member of the GMA Hall of Fame and they have been full time for 24 years!! I'm proud they have one night though! Be listening for their NEW single being sent to radio called "Cast in the Sea!" It is a powerful song!!!!

Where are the Woodsmen Quartet? They should be on main stage!

It's hard to be a judge of talent. But in my opinion this has to be a case of "Who's payin' in the money or who has paid there dues". The NQC mainstage performing artists should consist of the best of the best. When you see Soul'd Out Quartet on the list, something just does'nt sound right there. They are average at best. I believe the highest that any of their singles climbed to a whopping #58 on the singing news chart.(That's Where I'm Going) How many of you have even heard that song? There are so many groups out there with better talent that don't even get a second glance because they don't play the "Industry Game". Anybody that can give me a reason I'm wrong please indulge me.

weatherbob's avatar First of all I would like to say that I do not beleive that God would have any of us to down grade or begrudge "ANYONE" who is doing the work of the Lord.

Now I am no CRITIC, however I do know gospel music, and I would never want to stand before our Savior and say that anyones work was in vain.

Soul'd Out Quartet came to Searcy Arkansas in August of 07 to do a program called Freedom Explosion, in which several hundred teens were there, and God moved and done a great thing that night. Matt Rankin, Matt Fouch, Brent Hopper and Tanner Stahl, are all wonderful men of God and they work hard at what they do for GOD and the lost, not for what man would think of them.

And by the way they are all wonderful and personal friends of our family.

In lieu of the previous comment posted, I feel I must clarify something. This was not a personal attack or me trying to "downgrade or begrudge" what Soul'd Out has done and is doing for the kingdom of heaven. What I said had nothing to do with that matter. However, let me reiterate that my point clearly was that Soul'd Out just does'nt have the "it" factor that other groups have that deserve to be on mainstage. I'm not only singling out Soul'd Out, there are plenty of other groups as well that just don't cut it for mainstage. I also know Matt, Matt, and Brent on a PERSONAL level. This is not an attack on their intentions, but merely my perspective on the talent that their group represents.

Deon Unthank's avatar What young group would you consider having the "it" factor?

Merry Christmas! I tend to agree with the critic about Soul'd Out. They do not possess the necessary tools for main stage. I still believe that many of the groups on main stage do not belong and would be better suited for showcase during the day. If i am paying 25 to 30 dollars per night, i want to hear the best that the Southern Gospel Music industry has to offer. I speak for my group as well, were not ready either. LOL
Deon, that is a good question, and I would love to hear some responses.

i attended a showcase last year at nqc that lasted all afternoon. there were really only 4 groups that i liked, and now 3 of them are on mainstage. everyday driven was really good along with soul'd out and tribute, however i thought driven could've been added to the mainstage lineup. after all, they have been up there before. again, everyday driven was stellar, and soul'd out's bass and tenor combonation has the potential to be one of the best ever. so needless to say, i'm happy with the new additions

I think the lineup for the convention is ok but, where is Palmetto State? CrossWay, TK & McRae, Mike & Kelly Bowling, HisSong, Imperials and Three Bridges all have a top 25 song in the January Singing News and none of them are scheduled to sing. The Beene family are scheduled to sing and they don't even have a song in the top eighty chart. Kim Collingsworth was Nominated last year as a top five finalist for piano player and still The Collingsworth Family don't get to sing on the main stage. Yet No Matter what happens I'm still going to the convention. It is the best week of the year
