NQC 2008 Schedule

Well, the NQC board has posted their first list of performers for the 2008 National Quartet Convention.

There's not a whole lot to talk about here in regards to the usual suspects. Brian Free & Assurance moved up to three nights - finally. However, after back to back #1s and being one of the hottest tickets out there today - the NQC still feels the need to only put Karen Peck & New River at two nights. Come on guys - I know the group is owned by a woman - but it is almost 2008. As much as I love the Pfeifers - I'm still confused by the need to put them on for three nights.

Obviously by now most people have heard of the fact that Ernie Haase & Signature Sound and the Gaither Vocal Band have been added back. It's about time. Also making their way back (which should have been added in the press release, IMHO) are the Isaacs - which are the only other artist besides Mark Lowry in the same league as the GVB and EHSSQ.

Also new to the list are two soloists - Janet Paschal and Mark Bishop (two that should have been included last year). Also new this year are Tribute, Soul'd Out Quartet, and the amazingly talented Everyday Driven.

Some obvious missing names are Mike & Kelly Bowling and CrossWay. Also - with the reception they got last year and the buzz they continue to build - there are three big names missing as well - Imperials, King's Heralds, and the Collingsworth Family. Also - as hugely popular as they are - why is Young Harmony not on the list? How come the Galloways are still missing?

Overall there are some really positive changes here, but also some obvious omissions still. The NQC board has a hard time making a schedule that they think will be the best for NQC - and for that I commend them. Hopefully some of the missing names I mentioned here will be added eventually.

Hello out there! Is anyone listening? I just heard Three Bridges last night at a big church, a contemporary church no less. That Pastor and wife were blown away. Somebody who makes the decisions needs to rethink not having Three Bridges on the program next year. They have a more closely blended sound and a more energetic, dynamic, versatile, stop me when you catch on. Put the new Three bridges on and you won;t remember the old Three Bridges.

Chris,
I think you made a really good assessment on the 2008 lineup. Welcome back Bill.

pro-tools dude's avatar I sure would have a sleepless night or two in having to pick the talent for the main stage. With the gaither crowd on stage (as they should be)that eliminated a couple of artist and with the Florida Boy's retiring that added one group. To be honest besides knowing the artist fan base and and judging their talent level,i find no fault in the board and i really am not condoning the past actions by the board. They are trying to improve the NQC but that is a gradual thing. Just go and enjoy it. I stayed away for dumb reasons in the past.I just had to do some soul searching and then look at it from the business and talent side. God bless and keep on singing.

[If your best is not good enough, you probably need to change your work ethic or vocation.  cool smile

I'm stoked about this years lineup!!!!!!The last three years there were at least three nights that i only wanted to see two or three groups that were on mainstage. This year there are six or seven groups i've just gotta see every night and even ten or eleven groups a couple of nights.I'm stoked about this years lineup!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAHHHH! The power of persuasion! It's amazing how our influence works. If I say a certain group is good, there may be a few turned heads. If Bill Gaither says "this group is good," thousands of heads will turn. [I am a Gaither fan]. Who is good, who is not, who has "it", who does not have "it", is personal opinion. Having said that, there are probably a lot of groups who have never been "discovered" to make it to the NQC. POPULARITY among our peers is an amazing tool in SGM, the political world, the secular world, and the church world. Personally, I believe it is WRONG to judge someone's talent, inteligence, anointing, etc., by mere popularity, as I believe Nick Bruno has stated this many times. SO, for whatever reasons/excuses people are put front-stage on the NQC, it will boil down to individual perception and influence.
