Brian Lester of St. Louis, MO based gospel group The Lesters was honored at the 12th Annual Mid-America Gospel Music Association Convention in Farmington, MO on November 4, 2011. Brian was awarded MAGMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is presented each year to pioneers in the field of Southern Gospel Music who have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to the field of gospel music and have influenced and mentored the new generation of performers.
In addition to a stunning award, Brian was honored with a video presentation that chronicled his years in gospel music since performing his first song at age three. Brian’s emotional acceptance of this year’s award will not soon be forgotten as he quoted the lyrics to “I’d Rather Have Jesus”.
Brian is the third member of his legendary family to receive this award, following his sister Ginger Lester Pitchers in 2006 and his father Herschel Lester in 2000.
Also honored was Illinois’ own Claude Johnson of the Wanda Mountain Boys. Claude has been involved in gospel music since he formed The Gospel Four Quartet in 1958.
