“… show me where I fit”
It is hard to believe that the 2011 is over! It seems that the last couple of months just disappeared. The Calvarymen had Christmas weekend off and I had the privilege to sing at my home church on Christmas Eve – it was written by Michael Card, “Joseph’s Song”. The song reflects on being the human father of Jesus. It is a thought provoking look into what Joseph may have been thinking. One thing that really caught my attention was the beginning of the chorus, “Father, show me where I fit into this plan of yours.” I can only imagine Joseph crying this out – being totally overwhelmed by the fact that he was charged with raising the Son of God. TALK ABOUT PRESSURE! With God’s help Joseph did just that. He followed in the will of God and raised our Savior.
I am going to make my heart’s cry this year … “show me where I fit into this plan of yours!” Just think how much richer our lives would be if that was the first thing out of our lips every morning. If every step we took was taken with forethought of God’s plan for us. Very few of us have an angel come to us in our dreams and tell us what to do as Joseph did. But what’s incredible is that, through Christ, we have the opportunity to talk to God whenever we want to and if we are listening, He will give us the direction we need. It most likely will not be through an audible voice, but God speaks through His written word, through the voice of a pastor, or maybe a mentor. The bottom line is that He promised never to leave us hanging. The path the Lord has for us is not always easy. In fact struggles are sure to come our way. But just as he gave Joseph the strength and direction to raise our Savior, He will indeed give us all we need – strength, peace, hope, joy – whatever we need, it is ours to claim. The mountains are still there to climb; and God will give us the hiking boots to climb them!
May His blessings and peace be with you all as we begin this new year!
