Taking Time To Relax

The last few months have been busy ones for us. While Jim has been busy on the road with the Booth Brothers, I’ve been filling in for other groups since September of last year. In addition to a hectic road life, it seems that Jim has “lived” in the studio since January. The Booth Brothers have several projects in the works, (by the way, their newest, Room For More is their best yet!) Jim is also finishing up his solo CD (yes, it’s awesome!) and he has also spent much of his time helping me with the projects I have in the works. In addition, he’s still writing songs and in the studio on a regular basis making demos for those new songs while I run the publishing company and try to keep the paperwork under control.

Thinking about this one day, it hit me, we are smack dab in the middle of the infamous “rat race” and some days, it’s getting the best of us! On more than one occasion, we’ve felt worn out and a little overwhelmed at our schedules and all the while, we were promising ourselves we’d slow down, soon.

In the midst of it all, we received an invitation from friends to go to a local dinner theater. As our inner voices were reminding us of all we needed to do, we knew it would be so great to relax, have a meal and watch a play. It sounded like such fun! We looked at our schedules wondering when we could fit it in and then decided that we were just going to make it work. We would put this “time to relax” on our schedules just as we put our time to work on our schedules.

We live in the day of fast cars, fast food restaurants, cell phones, instant messaging and a host of other things to make life more hectic than it’s ever been. Most of you probably spend your day getting the kids ready for school, going to work, picking the kids up from school, taking them to their various extra curricular activities, picking them up, taking them home, finding something quick to put together for dinner, helping the kids with their homework and then falling into bed at the end of the day wondering where the time went. Our lives are full of everyday stresses and pressures and if we want to experience a greater closeness in our relationships, it is vital that we learn to decompress. To take time to relax and as the old saying goes “come apart before you fall apart”.

Our evening out with friends, that we “fit” into our schedule, was filled with great food, lots of laughter and was exactly the oasis that we needed. We were able to get back into the “race” refreshed and ready to do all that we needed to do.

Through this experience, we learned the great value of slowing down and I hope our lesson learned will encourage you to do the same!

InHisTime's avatar Preach it, girl! I know myself, just like many others, that I have been more stressed out these days with work and all. I have been elevated to a new position within our firm a few months ago, and since I have been in this new position, they have continually added more and more on top of my duties, that I sometimes feel like I am being quite weighed down under the pressure of it all. They have referred to me many times as the miracle worker . . . LOL, but I definitely don't feel that way and take no credit there. Only by God's grace and help do I accomplish all that I do. So juggling these duties along with all things we do for our family and around our home, we definitely need some time to wind down, take a deep breath and just relax.

I thank the Lord that I have a safe haven to come home to and relax from the day's hectic events! We do get together with friends from time to time and just enjoy all the blessings of Lord!

Thank you, Melissa, for sharing this wonderful article with us! You have been quite an encouragement!

Many blessings to you!

Amazed in His presence and humbled by His great love!
