The Giant Chicken
![]() Not far from where I live there is a restaurant with a giant chicken right in front. I say “giant” because it is about 40 feet high. You can’t miss it, which, I suppose, is exactly what the owner had in mind. I’ve never eaten there so I really can’t say if the food is good or bad, but I want to use it as a way of responding to last month’s article. Reader Comments
Your right Nick there are many many pit falls that a artist or singer or groups face in the gospel music field, that is why when ever I'm doing a interview with a group or single artist I make sure we talk about what to watch for and what type of things can happen if done in a rush.
We also cover who to watch for, yes we let the artist tell of things gone bad and why the 10,500 dollars had to be put up first before they could record on a record lable who signed them up to record. We had an interview a couple of weeks ago that had told of how they could not sing or record any song unless the studio lable wrote or owned it. That really started the call in's from some of our locale artist. I pray that these folks were saved some heartach. It turned out to be a good interview, which I have been so blessed with so many of them. Keep up the good work, may God bless your each and every need. Brother Gene KMHM 104.1 FM

Great article as usual Nick. Along with the things you mentioned are two little unkind words or little used words called common sense. If it may be too good to be true, then it must not be true. It is not just the newcomers but the veterans as well who do not use these two words.
Thanks, Dwight Faircloth

Nick, what you say here makes a lot of sense. I have read the posts you are referring to, and was wondering if the Chicken analogy was the best choice, isn't that kind of what a few were calling you? "A Big Chicken" LOL The Irony just kind of hit me and I thought I'd mention it. Keep to it. You are making a difference in many ministries.
Ryan Stutzman P.S. My daughter enjoyed meeting you the other day. She visited the studio the other day when you were tracking for the Meldoy Boys. Said you were very intense.

Nick,
Thank you so much for your perspective on what is going on in Southern Gospel Music today. It is a shame that greed has crept in to anything having to do with Chritianity. I always have been taught that Christianity is about being generous and giving, not greedy and getting. I met with you in your office last year and I must say, that was one of the best moves I ever made. I appreciate your strightforward approach to this "music business" we are all in. It comes down to building a foundation with bible study and prayer, then proceeding with phone call after phone call and email after email. I am happy to tell you that your approach works. Although I must be honest and say I've not been as persisitent as I should at times, when I have been, it has worked. I look forward to seeing you again at NQC. I'll be in booth #438. Let's try and get together at some point there. I'd love to catch up with you. Blessings, Paul Armstrong Paul Armstrong Ministries http://www.paularmstrongministries.com

Nick,
Great article. Metaphorically speaking . . . I've seen many chickens in my day. Some cluck louder than others, some are bleeding chickens (bleeding your wallett dry) ,some just need to cross the road & not come back. And perhaps a few will get run over in the attempt. It sure sounds like it's time to open up the hen-house and let the fox do a little house cleaning. Remember, a chicken will never fly . . . Oh' maybe a few feet, but it never really gets off the ground! Let's face the music folks . . . SGM needs to be found worthy of it's calling in all aspects of its ministry. God will, one day, hold us all accountable. And I believe those who propigate a false witness, inside the Lords work, will pay an ultimate price in the end !
