This will probably make very unpopular but, I don't get too excited to see things like this. I never get excited about an artist who makes their living singing beer drinking songs releasing Gospel Music. It's almost as if they come to Gospel after country is done with them. The exception is Randy Travis who has made a strong statement about his faith and is doing Gospel exclusively now. I would rather hear a new artist that can't get airplay any day than hear this sort of release. Again I'm all for George meeting Christ (maybe he has) but, don't sing all the other junk and turn around and sing "Amazing Grace"

I was amazed when I first saw the George Jones ad in the Singing News. I say congrats to both Rick & George as the gap begins to narrow.

Nice of you to jump to conclusions and make assumptions before you know the facts.
It is my understanding that Vestal Goodman led George Jones to the Lord a while back. I applaud George's decision to make this album and Rick Hendrick's work in making it possible. God Bless both!

Thanks for your positive comments. George and Nancy appreciate their friends and Christian family.George's faith is what made him record this album. We feel it will go on to move a lot of units to his possibly unsaved country fans.He does not profess to be a minister, and it doesnt take spiritual labeling to plant positive seeds.I do appreciate everyones opinions and views. Myself,BMG nor George feel threatened by this release to the Christian market. But, actually the opposite- we have felt embraced by the industry. So, thanks for not orginizing a POSSUM hunt

Sorry folks, this is not George's first Gospel Album. He did one back in the 60's (when he was really wild) called "Cup of Loneliness" It was a big seller then just as this one will be. By the way Randy Travis is not just singing gospel. They can reach many for the Lord because of their testimony. Does a mail man quit his job just because he gets saved? Remember, Jesus ate with the publicans of his day and the "religious" folks went wild on that one too! Geogre we love you and so does God!

I said it would make me unpopular and I was right. I find it interesting that anytime some one takes the stand I did that people will jump on him quickly. Remember, I said, I'm all for George meeting Christ...and I am glad he has! But I think it is wrong to continue to sing the songs that would so openly contradict God's word on Sat. in the club and then sing about Jesus Sunday morning in the church. I love how people always bring up Jesus and the publicans. Yes , he DID eat with them ,but do you see where on Saturday night he went with them and ripped off the jews as they did? My Bible still says "Come out From among them and be ye SEPERATE"......Oh wait,I can hear you calling me a "legalist" right now! Check the meaning of the word before you do that. Again I am absolutely thrilled that George has met Christ. I know he has had his battles in his life and I hope that he has finally found victory in Christ. That is where true victory stands.
And no the mailman doesn't quit his job because he gets saved. It does not go against God's word. Some of those other songs do. A christain has no buisness singing them. That was and is my complete point. I hope that all of George's fans hear the message of Christ through His songs. I hope these songs continue to strengthen George in his faith. I just don't like to see a double standard. Now that I have said my piece, you are free to say yours. By the way, I'll pray for George and the impact He could possibly have now that he has met the Lord.

While I agree that you shouldn't sing honky tonk songs on Saturday night and then turn around and be Mr. Spiritual on Sunday, do we know that George is doing that? There are clean, wholesome country songs out there. If he can do that to grab an unsaved country fan's attention, and then sing a Gospel song to introduce them to Christ, I say more power to him.
I remember several years ago in our area the Billy Graham Association held a crusade in a local university arena. On Sunday night, Paul Overstreet sang to open the service. He sang "Ball and Chain," "Daddy's Come Around" and many of his other mainstream hits. Then, after getting the attention of the several thousand in attendance, he gave his testimony. The altar was filled with several hundred people that night, many of whom thought they were just going to a Paul Overstreet mini-concert. Again, I don't agree with mixing beer drinking songs with the Gospel, but if George can reach people by singing some clean country, I say go for it!

Duane,
Thank you!!! That is SO the point I have tried to get across, even when we had the story on Diamond Rio. These artist have an opportunity to reach people that may not attend a Southern Gospel concert. Thanks for seeing our vision!! Shane Jordan Rick Hendrix Company
