No matter what your taste, Stirring Up Success with a Southern Flavor, the Catoosa Citizen's for Literacy (CCL) new fundraising cookbook offers a variety of choices. Singer, musician, actor, writer and syndicated columnist for News Publishing Co. Randall Franks, "Officer Randy Goode" from TV's "In the Heat of the Night," co-authored the project with Shirley Smith welcoming 70 old and new celebrity friends from music, movies and television, to raise funds for Catoosa County's Shirley Smith Learning Center near Ringgold, Ga. and its programs.

image"I am excited that this year long labor of love is now available," he said. "Many of my old and new friends graciously donated recipes, words of encouragement and photos to help us raise funds for the Learning Center. There is so many facets to this book there is surely something for everyone to enjoy."

Franks, who serves as chairman of the Catoosa Citizens for Literacy (CCL) which coordinates the Learning Center, is a solo performer that achieved a top twenty selling southern gospel release "Handshakes and Smiles" in 1990. Franks also performed with the Marksmen, Jeff and Sheri Easter and The Lewis Family.

Hopefully it encourages clarity in communication with others." Southern Gospel chart topper Libbi Perry Stuffle of the Perrys found herself with a fourth grade reading level while attending ninth grade. She chose to take reading classes despite peer pressure to make a difference in her life. "Reading is used in every area of our lives," she said. "It is a very important thing to know how to do." Hee-Haw star and Dove award winner Lulu Roman dedicates much of her energy to helping young children who face life without parents. "Learning is knowing you can be secure in your ability to survive," she said. "This is so important as reading is a must. Knowledge is power, power is security, security is absolute to helping others grow in love and care. God's care! Reading God's word is life."

As a major child actress in Hollywood, Gigi Perreau touched millions with her performances in countless movie classics. She now dedicates her career to sharing with children.
"As a former child star, I am finding my career as a drama teacher gives me a wonderful opportunity to give back, and encourage my students to read a great deal," she said. "I explain that 'the more you read, the better prepared you are to create diverse characters." Other nationally known Catoosa celebrities lending a hand include baseball legend Rick Honeycutt, and country entertainer James Rogers.
