Ever since the disbandment of Standing Tall, many people have been waiting to see what lead vocalist Mike Upright was going to do.  Well, the wait is over.  “Hallelujah Handy” continues with the musical style that Mike is known for.  Mike has a very distinctive voice and a simple, laid-back country sound that is easy to recognize.  Fans of Mike Upright will take to this recording like bees to honey.

The very unique title song, “HALLELUJAH HANDY”, gets the recording off and running.  As Mike’s first single, this song is one that will stick with you.  With its clever message and catchy tune, this song should do well for Mike.

A wonderful song of faith and victory is the song “A MUCH BIGGER GOD.” Emphasizing that our God is much bigger than any giant standing in our way, Israel Crawford of the Living Waters Trio writes the song, and Mike does an exceptional job singing it.  Another excellent song of victory is the song “WHAT THE BLOOD HAS TO SAY”.

”FATHERS DAY” is a ballad written by Mike and depicts a very haunting message for all to hear, while “SOMEBODY’S LISTENING” gives hope that the Lord Himself hears our cries for help and fights our battles and gives us grace to go on.

Digging back and recording a couple classics, Mike adds his special touch to the classic “ONE WAY FLIGHT”, as well as a song the Happy Goodman’s charted in the early 70s called “I SAW THE MAN.”

Painting a wonderful picture of the love of Christ is the song “SOUNDS LIKE TRUE LOVE”, while “POWER OF PRAYER” paints an excellent picture of the tremendous power there is in prayer.

Mike penned a beautiful ballad of hope called “IT WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN.”  Offering consolation that the pain of losing a loved one will be over when we reach the other side.

”REDEEMED FROM THE HAND OF THE ENEMY” has always been one of my all-time favorite Kyla Rowland penned songs, and I was elated to see someone finally record it.  Mike does a good job on this song of triumph that the Lord has truly redeemed us from the hand of the great enemy!  As much as I love the song, I think it lacks the punch the song truly deserves. 

Recounting the trials and triumphs from the Bible days, “WHO WOULD’VE DREAMED” is a song of encouragement and finishes the recording on a positive note.

Mike was the cornerstone for the sound of his former group, Standing Tall.  His identifiable sound continues as a soloist and his fans will no doubt be pleased with his latest endeavor.  As a side note, if the background vocals sound familiar, it’s because Ruppe sisters Heather Day (Ruppes) and Kim Lord (LordSong) lent their voices on this recording, and added a nice touch and a little extra precision to the entire musical package.  My only gripe with Mike are his vowel pronunciations on some words, but all in all, he has a really good recording on his hands one he should really be proud of.
