NASHVILLE, TN Dave Moody was among last nights Dove Award winners at the 36th Annual GMA Music Awards, presented at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. PraiseStreet Worship Band, featuring Moody and friends, won for their Praise and Worship Album "Te Amo Dios" in the Spanish Language Album of the Year category! The CD is released on Lamon Records, a Charlotte/Nashville based record label with a 43 year history of releasing quality music. Moody was also nominated in two other catagories, including Southern Gospel Album as producer of Young Harmony's "Faith, Hope, Joy" CD and as a member of The Moody Brothers who were nominated in the Bluegrass Song of the Year category with George Hamilton IV. "We are all very excited," says Moody. "It was a shock to say the least." Moody, who has been nominated a total of nine times in the past four years, had never won an award. Traditional gospel artist Lynda Randle and Jason Illian from tv's "The Bachelorette" presented the award. "Its always been an honor for me just to be recognized by my peers in the industry for the music we write and produce. Ive always considered it an honor just to be nominated, never thinking wed actually bring one home to North Carolina!"

In fact, six Doves were presented to each of the contributors to "Te Amo Dios," including PraiseStreet Worship Band (the artist), Dave Moody (producer/songwriter), James Cobble, Jr. (executive producer), Gaither Homecoming regular Wesley Pritchard (choir director), Eulises Canada (Spanish lyrics writer/translator), and Nelson McSwain (co-producer/eng'r).

During his acceptance speech, Moody explained PraiseStreet was "started with a desire to encourage new songwriters from the church," and continued "the Spanish project grew out of a mission trip to Spain with Word On The Street Ministries where we learned one important thing - that God is God no matter where you are." Moody says no matter what language you speak, style of worship you prefer, or music you like, God wants a one-on-one relationship with you!

In a music awards show matched only by the Grammy Awards for its diversity, Dove Awards were handed out in a myriad of genres that included, among others, hip hop, southern gospel, inspirational, country, contemporary pop, modern rock, traditional gospel and choral.

Among the nearly 40 different artists receiving Dove statuettes on gospel musics biggest night of the year were Casting Crowns, Switchfoot, Randy Travis, The Crabb Family, and thanks to Mel Gibsons blockbuster "The Passion of the Christ" film, some unexpected names are among this years Dove Award recipients too. Lauryn Hill, Brad Paisley, Sara Evans, and MxPx represent the eclectic mix of rock, pop, gospel and country artists receiving Dove Awards for Special Event Album of the Year - "The Passion of the Christ: Songs." And "The Passion of the Christ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" was named Instrumental Album of the Year, giving Mel Gibson a Dove Award for his production on the John Debney-composed project.

The 36th Annual GMA Music Awards will be televised in national syndication during the month of June. Central City Productions of Chicago, Ill., will handle first run syndication through network affiliates and independent stations nationwide, with an expected audience reach of at least 75 percent of U.S. households.
