Talley Trio - Jun 05
Hi everyone!
You know, sometimes just when you think you know what the story is, God completely changes it. I think sometimes He just likes to yank my chain and remind me that I'm just a character in His story, and a small role at that. As a songwriter friend once put it, "the Lord might get your attention."
Recently, we sang at a church (whose name and location I won't mention), and throughout the concert became a bit bewildered? Discouraged? Let's put it this way, we were underwhelmed by their enthusiasm(or lack thereof). Now don't get me wrong, if we only sang for applause, we would have stopped a long time ago! However, it does make your job as a singer a lot easier when the folks look involved and enthusiastic. Nevertheless, we just assumed they were a little more reserved and kept on singing, and afterwards when we greeted the people at the product table, many people expressed how much they enjoyed the concert and how they were blessed. We sneaked glances at each other as if to say, well what do you know?! and after they left, began packing up.
When most everyone had gone, a young woman approached us and asked if she could speak with me. She and I went back into a quieter corner, and she proceeded to tell me a little about her life. For privacy's sake, I won't share the details, but this young lady had been through literal hell on earth. She shared how, although she had accepted Christ years before, she felt so far away from God and how empty and desperate she felt inside. As she spoke, I started thinking, "Ok God, you better come up with something for me to say to her!" Long story short, this shy but sweet young woman bowed her head and made things right with the Lord while I sat with my arm around her praying along with her. We talked a little more, and God nudged me to send her home with one of my new solo CDs, which I did. She left with a small smile on her face, which she said hadn't been there in a long time.
I haven't heard from that girl since, and don't really know anything about her except what she told me. I may never know how her life turns out, or even if she liked my CD. But the point is, just when we may think life is in a tailspin, God may have a surprise for us. The Lord might get your attention.
