Deon’s Radio Picks - Sept 1, 2005
Hope’s Call – "Singing Heaven’s Song"
I’ve been after Hope’s Call for months to release their traditional Southern Gospel song and now they finally have. This group has some of the closest harmony in Gospel Music today and it’s not wasted on this song. They sing this upbeat song and make it sound like Southern Gospel is supposed to sound. Your listeners will rave over this cut. Written by Depp Britt – Christian Taylor Music/BMI - Heritage Gold – August 2005 – cut # 3
Daryl Williams Trio – "Too Late For Lazarus"
This song features the vocal styling of Karen Williams and she flat nails this song. Sometimes I wonder how many more Lazarus songs can be written, but Daryl Williams puts a new twist on this cut and makes it a great song. The song is upbeat and you are sure to get requests for this one. Written by Daryl Williams – Chris White Music/BMI - Crossroads Airplay Sampler – August 2005 – cut # 3
The Bakers – "For Your Glory"
If there is any such thing as a Southern Gospel Praise and Worship song, this is it. The melody will fit any SGM agenda, yet the words are praise to the Lord. This has to be my "sleeper". The Bakers aren’t nationally known YET, and that is a big YET. If they keep putting out music like this, they will be a household name. Treat your audience to this new group. Written by Roland Baker III & Randy Davenport – Best of Zion Music/BMI - Zion Music Group – Compilation # 37 – cut # 2
The Bradys – "Waiting For The Day"
The first time I heard this song I thought it was the Crabb Family. This is a number one song waiting to happen. This medium tempo song is just full of encouragement. Warn your listeners to pull off the road if they’re driving, because you have to stop and raise your hands in praise after listening to this song. Give your audience something special and play this cut for them. Written by Alan Brady – Leemike Music/BMI
It’s been a while since I did my radio pics, so here are a few of bonus pics.
The Shepherds – "There’s Got To Be A God Somewhere"
This is plain ole driving Southern Gospel Music the way is should be sang. You will be clapping your hands or tapping your toes when this number is playing. If I had to describe the message of this song it would be "logic". The message is just plain logical thinking about how God fits into everything. This song will get your listeners attention when you play it. Written by Debra Shepherd - Quint Shepherd Music/BMI - Dove Music – Volume 2005 – single cut
Ernie Haase and Signature Sound – "Do You Want To Be Forgiven?"
Wow, this song has the feel and harmony of the 70s Imperials. I’ve never heard Signature Sound sing this tight. They seem to have moved to another level in their singing. You might see cars swerving back and forth on the highway as the drivers are swaying to this song. Not only is the track that good, but it’s one of those songs that you will be singing along with after hearing it once. Ernie and the gang have a number one song here. Written by Rodney Griffin – Songs of Greater Vision/BMI - Heritage Gold – August 2005 – cut # 1
The McRaes – "Low And Down"
How about the McRaes singing some bluegrass! Hold on to your seats, because that just what these two gals are doing, and doing a great job of it. The track is banjo heavy, but fits the song well. This upbeat song would do well in drive time. It will be hard to sit still when this song comes on. It should chart well. Written by Annie McRae – Christian Taylor Music/BMI - Daywind Records – Single cut
