Two nights ago my 6 year old son asked, "When we learn everything there is to know about Jesus, can we stop going to church ?" He was a little confused by my laughter because, to him, this was a very serious question. Thank goodness Daryl was quick to reply - "Yes, Cason, we will stop going to church when we know it all." This question came from a little boy who gave his heart to Jesus less than a month ago. Of course his oldest sister argues that he doesn't act very saved and my other daughter says - "he needs to learn the 10 commandments cuz' he breaks like 5 a day." I often compare my son to King David, Stubborn but tender-hearted.

I began to wonder why Cason doesn't like church and I decided it's for the same reason he doesn't like school. Learning requires sitting still and listening. These are two skills that do not come easy for a 6 year old little boy. Sometimes they don't come very easy for my either. But they are required in learning. It's almost impossible to retain information if you are talking and moving around. That's because the focus is off the teacher and directed towards the distraction. We are all guilty of "spouting off" when we should be listening and most of us find it hard to sit still for any length of time. Learning requires humility. Arrogancy says - "I have all the answers therefore you can't teach me anything."

Just this year I learned that trees grow stronger during a drought. I would have thought just the opposite because without water (their sustenance) they die. But the longer the drought, the deeper the roots. Their root system has to keep digging until it finds water. Trees that have been through a drought are stronger and less likely to blow over in a storm. That little piece of information has encouraged me during the dry spells to just keep digging.

I have learned in the past month that dark chocolate lowers cholesteral and is actually beneficial to my health. Although, not life-changing information, it is so incredibly good to know that chocolate is my friend !!

In the past week my oldest daughter informed me that the 70's styles are on their way out and the 80's are "all the rage." Now I consider to know more than my children because I have lived longer and been through more experiences but this was information I did not know. She taught me something. I learned that, once again, I will be profoundly out of style because I refuse to wear shoulder pads again and my "big hair" days are over.

My point is, we are constantly learning and receiving new information. It's what we do with that information that makes the difference in our life and in the lives of others. As Christians, we are commissioned to preach the Gospel. To teach others about Christ. With knowledge comes responsibility. We are all teachers and we are all pupils. What a perfect month this is for letting someone know that Christ died for us, in spite of the fact that He already knows us.

I pray that I never get to a place where I know it all and I pray that I never get to a place where I stop sharing the information I do know.

God bless ya,
Karen
