It seems as of late, that a lot of people are coming out with hymn recordings or recordings with a mix of hymns and Praise & Worship songs. This latest release from Amy Lambert is one of those types of recordings. Though somewhat predictable as far as content is concerned, there are some wonderful musical surprises along the way.

The classic, "WONDERFUL WORDS OF LIFE" done in a fresh new way start things off before Amy slows things down with a heartfelt performance of "IN ALL THINGS", penned by Geron Davis. I love the inclusion of one of my all time favorite Lanny Wolfe tunes, "Jesus Be the Lord of All" as a bridge and the song offers hope that God is with us, in all things.

Featuring a more acoustical, easy flowing feel, Amy turns in nice performances on a couple of classic hymns, "LEANING ON THE EVERLASTING ARMS" and "I'D RATHER HAVE JESUS" (which has been recorded quite a bit as of late) before she turns in her own rendition of the Nicole C. Mullen classic, "REDEEMER" (which doesn't stray too far from the original).

"ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS' NAME" gets a new sound as Amy sings this song with a strong choral feel to it before she slows down for the tender, "GOD DOESN'T KNOW", written by Bruce Carroll and Mark Lowry.

So many timeless songs speak of God's faithfulness to us, so Amy compiled 4 great ones into one medley aptly titled, "FAITHFUL MEDLEY". Featuring "Great is Thy Faithfulness" (of course), "God Leads us Along" (one of my all time favs), "Rock of Ages" and "It is Well with my Soul"

Amy really shows her edgy side as she turns in a very good performance on a progressive arrangement of, "THE SOLID ROCK" before shifting gears with an acoustical arrangement of another one of my all time favorites, "PASS ME NOT".
Featuring a fresh arrangement, "I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR" is a highlight of the recording, as is the Darlene Zscheck penned, "WORTHY IS THE LAMB", which Amy performs flawlessly and backed by a choir.

Just as Billy Graham has closed out many crusades with "JUST AS I AM", so Amy does with this recording, but with a new arrangement that really brings the message of this wonderful song home. As the song fades to silence, the last few seconds of the track features a delicate piano performance by Jason Webb, and makes the song and the recording complete.

Amy has always been one of Southern Gospel Music's classiest gems, and this recording is an excellent reflection of her talent as a musical artist as she uniquely performs these timeless songs. These are obviously hymns and praise songs that mirror her heart, as she takes each song and make them her own.

Personal Favs: IN ALL THINGS; FAITHFUL MEDLEY; THE SOLID ROCK; PASS ME NOT; I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR; JUST AS I AM

I own every album that Amy Lambert has released as a solo artist and this is by far the best she has done. The new arrangments on the old hymns and the emotional dynamics of the praise and worship songs give this album a variety that everyone will enjoy. I would rate this album a 5.
