Inspirations - “The Journey Ahead”
One of the most consistent groups in all of gospel music is the Inspirations. They are one of the few groups who, when they start singing, you know exactly who it is. Many groups strive their whole career to have a sound that easily identifiable, and the Inspirations perfected that years ago, and have consistently created great music along the way. Their style is simple and down to earth, and that has always been part of their charm. “The Journey Ahead” continues that down home tradition of classic Inspirations music. ”LOOKING TO LIVE”, written by Sandi Knight who wrote their award winning song “I’ll Not Turn My Back on Him Now” starts the recording off in classic Inspirations style. This is sure to be a fan favorite. One of the smoothest versions of the Rambo classic ”THE HOLY HILLS” is found on this recording, and the Inspirations really shine on their performance of this great song. I was delighted to see them include the epitome of quartet numbers, ”GIVE THE WORLD A SMILE.” Having charmed the world over and recorded hundreds of times, it was good to see this song sung one more time. Archie Watkins does well on the thought provoking, ”HE KNOWS YOU BY HEART,” while the Ol’ Bear Hunter, Jack Laws, is featured on the Jimmie Davis classic ”SOMEONE TO CARE”, and he sounds as good as ever. Rodney Griffin penned the next song ”I WILL PRAISE HIM,” which is a really great song and one you’ll be singing long after the music stops. Two songs the Inspirations recorded and made popular 20 years ago are the classics ”THEY’RE HOLDING UP THE LADDER” and ”THE WONDER OF WONDERS.” The group sounds just as good now on these songs as they did in the early 1980’s when they originally sang them, and are the true highlights of this recording. Mike Holcomb does a good job doing the solo work on ”HE CHANGED IT ALL”, which was written in part by Mark Lowry’s mother, Bev Lowry. Rounding out this group of songs is the encouraging, ”REJOICE.” The Bible says to rejoice in all things, and this song does a good job reinforcing that bit of scripture. There are no surprises found on this recording. It’s the Inspirations the way we’ve always known them. With “consistency” as their middle name, the Inspirations have yet, another recording that I am sure their legions of fans will thoroughly enjoy. Personal Favs: THE HOLY HILLS; HE KNOWS YOU BY HEART; I WILL PRAISE HIM; THEY’RE HOLDING UP THE LADDER; THE WONDER OF WONDERS; REJOICE

The Inspirations are truly a group that knows what they can do best...and just keep doing it, project after project, year after year, song after song! They are the epitome of consistency and show the virtue of staying within themselves and not trying to fix what ain't never been broke!
They've made a habit of periodically re-recording songs they've done in the past...so when will they re-do "New Jerusalem"(again)?

I think this is one of the best southern gospel cd's out right now, it's the smooth sound of one of Southern Gospel's legendary tenors, mixed with the best bass voice(in my opinion) then you add the complimentary lead and baritone and to top it all off the Ol' Bearhunter himself Jack Laws...God has truly blessed anyone who purchased this cd.
