You may recognize the name Jerry Bennett. He traveled with the Freeman’s in the late 90’s, has made appearances on Gospel Music Television and also co-wrote “My God Forgets” made popular by the Kingsmen. “You Can’t Keep Me Down” is Jerry’s second solo project. With producer Kevin McManus behind the board, musicians like Gary Prim and Jason Webb, and a special guest appearance by Candy Hemphill Christmas this record can’t miss. “Old Fashioned Altar” sets the tone for this country gospel project. Jerry has a nice voice and quite a knack for writing songs. He played a part in nine out of ten songs on the album. “Who’s to Blame” is a bold tune that addresses the church’s habit of making excuses. “Oil and Wine” speaks of healing, and “You’re Never Without” features the much appreciated lyrical hook of “If you have Jesus within, you’re never without.” Gotta love creative songwriting like that!

“Sounds like Hell to Me” is a biblical description of hell. Probably not the best choice for SG radio, however it probably works well under the Jefferson Street Bridge where Jerry sometimes ministers to the Nashville homeless with Candy Hemphill Christmas and other volunteers. “Pour it On,” one of my favorite songs on the record is an up tempo number written by April Nye. Now, this WOULD be a great radio tune. The highlight of the record is of course the duet with Candy. “Use to,” tells the story of God calling out to a backslidden child. It’s quite a moving lyric, and Candy beautifully reminds us that it’s never too late to turn around.

“Some Day, One Day, Today” is another upbeat tune and bridges nicely into “You’ve Seen Nothing Yet,” which is another strong lyrical addition. I really appreciate Jerry’s way of putting things. As a fellow songwriter, there are several “Why didn’t I think of that?” moments on this record. The project ends on an up swing with the title cut, “You Can’t Keep Me Down.” I especially love the instrumentation on this one, and it leaves a lasting impression of the artist.

Jerry delighted me more with his songwriting than his vocals, which were on pitch, but just average. The team of people that he chose to make this record, have made his effort of excellence obvious though. I thought it was a solid album and one worth listening to. I have every reason to believe that his next album will show more vocal personality earning him that extra star.

I have only known Jerry for 2 years but can see he is going to go places. My husband and I are very big fans. His new CD Can't keep me down seems fitting as he was very near death only a few years ago, but thru the grace of God and Jerry's determination he came back. The song can't keep me down is a testament to that. He is kind of like the energiser bunny---He just keeps going and going. We wish him the very best. John & Norma Stratton

Jerry not only has an awesome voice but he has a true heart for the ministry and wants to help hurting people. That is why the Bridge Ministry is such a passion for him. His stage presence and his passion for reaching out to the hurting is obvious when you see him in person. This is definitely one of his nine projects that you would want in your collection - it is the best in songwriting, vocals, music, and production that he has put out to date! I look forward to the next one as I'm sure it will even be better!

We have known Jerry for 2 years and it was an instant friendship. Jerry is the most sincere person you would ever want to meet. He is truly a Christian "A child of God." Jerry is such a hard worker and so 'energetic' he wears us out with his traveling around the country spreading the "Word of God" in his dynamic way. His new C.D. "You Can't Keep Me Down" is a 5 Star in our books. Jerry has such a way of expressing himself when he sings whether in person on the platform or on his C.D. You can hear God in his beautiful voice and understand every word he sings. The words in the songs "Oil and the Wine" and "Who's to Blame" are so meaniful that they should touch peoples hearts and make them start thinking. We can't say enough about Jerry and his ministry in music. We wish him the very best and know in our hearts that he will be #1 someday soon. Jerry says all the 'Credits" he gets goes to his Lord and Savior for leading him in the right direction.

Jerry Bennett has been a tremendous blessing not only on my life but many others.I think that he is the BEST gospel singer in the world. The newest cd "You Cant Keep Me Down" is the best one yet(even though all of his cd's are great.)I hope he continues to do what GOD has appointed him to do because he could bless so many others.

I have just purchased this project. Totally awesome! I have to agree some of the best hooks in writing I've heard in a long time. I will disagree with whoever wrote Jerry has an average voice. I would put more stock in what Joel Hemphill wrote on the inside of this CD stating that "half the people in country music just wished they sang as well as jerry". Now if that's what you consider average that would be an understatement. Honestly where has this guy been. The industry I feel has lacked this type of talent for such a long time and I hope that he has a great career ahead of him. Since the Hinsons left the stage I've sadly missed the music they gave us. Now all I can say is wow glad someone has grabbed the torch. If anyone out there is a Hinson fan this would be a project you need to check out cause you'll be like me and Joel Hemphill a Jerry Bennett Fan. Jerry Bennett ROCKS!!!!

I have been being blessed by the awesome ministry of Jerry Bennett for the psat year and half. I must say although ALL his CD's to date are 'my favorite', his new project "You Can't Keep Me Down" is truly straight from the throne of God. It reaches into the heart of wounded warriors, with "Oil and the Wine" It grasps at heartstrings of people of the world when they hear him sing, "Sounds Like Hell to Me". ALL the songs on this project are the greatest. Jerry has been BLESSED, big time, by the Lord, with a voice that is always on pitch and clear. His talent is definitely nothing he can take the glory for, as the Lord has blessed him from his head to his toes!! His musical abilites are the best! This is one CD that I wish the whole world could hear!
Go for Jesus, Jerry!! My prayers are behind ya!
