Though a bit late to get a lot of exposure and sales for this Christmas season, I was glad nevertheless, to see Jimmy Fortune releasing a Christmas recording. His down home, country style works perfect for these Christmas tunes, both new and old alike.

Jimmy starts things off with a bouncy rendition of the highly favored, “I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS” before really picking up the pace with the nostalgic, “OLD TOY TRAINS”.

The reflective “IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME AGAIN” really slows things down with simple instrumentation and allows us to take a moment for us to remember all things that encompasses the Christmas season.

Penned by Willie Nelson, the tender, “PRETTY PAPER” is followed by the classic, “WHITE CHRISTMAS” before things move on to the Country/Bluegrass tinged, “CHRISTMAS COUNTRY STYLE”, penned by Fortune. This uptempo tune will no doubt be a huge favorite on this recording and should have been the title of this recording, as it aptly fits what this recording is all about.

The recording ends with 4 classic Christmas songs, “SILVER BELLS”, “OH HOLY NIGHT” (my all-time favorite Christmas song), “HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS” and “SILENT NIGHT”, and are all done in Jimmy’s inimitable style.

While I wouldn’t call this the greatest Christmas recording ever made, it’s a very good Christmas recording. If you like your Christmas music simple, country and traditional, you will really enjoy this recording; and if you’re a fan of Jimmy Fortune, like myself, you will enjoy it very much as well.

Personal Favs: IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME AGAIN; CHRISTMAS COUNTRY STYLE; OH HOLY NIGHT; SILENT NIGHT
