Jody Brown Indian Family has come a long way, musically.  I will admit it has only been their last 2 recordings that I have began to really enjoy this group.  Their last release, “Where is Your Faith” really started to show off what they can do.  Now with the release of “Life is Good”, the group is really starting to come into their own musically and vocally.  This recording picks up where “Where is Your Faith” left off and showcases some really strong songs and some of their best work to date.  It is almost as if they are finally coming out of their shell.

THAT JUST GOES TO SHOW” is an excellent opening song and is a ballad reaffirming that God answers prayer and that faith never fails.

Relaying the all too familiar story of Jonah, ”AIN’T GONNA RUN” is a fun song with a positive message of following the call of God, while the gentle ”SO GOOD TO ME” reminds us just how good God has been to us and examines the simple treasures in life, and how blessed we really are.

Continuing with the recent influx of feel good songs, ("Walk on Water Kind of Day” & “Cloud Nine, Headed for Ten") ”LIFE IS GOOD” is a fun song with its semi-calypso beat, and is one that should do very well for the group and their audiences should really enjoy.  Things then make a turn towards the more serious with the song ”I’VE SEEN IT IN ACTION”, which is testament of the power of God and His Word.

Two songs about Christ’s death on the cross are ”HE HAD THE WORLD ON HIS SHOULDERS,” which paints a somber picture of the sacrifice of Christ, while ”I’M SO GLAD HE DID” offers praise to the Lord for that sacrifice.  Both are excellently done and are highlights of the recording.  Sandwiched between those two songs is the light and airy “WHATEVER YOU NEED” which picks up the pace and is a very enjoyable tune.

The bouncy ”NEXT TIME I SEE YOU” bring the realization that the next time we see one another, may in the rapture as we “rise together to worship our King.” The joyous ”PRAISE GOD HE’S ALIVE” is a definite highlight of the recording and would probably make an excellent single release.

As an added bonus, the group included two songs sung in part in their native Cherokee language.  ”I’LL FLY AWAY” and ”AMERCIA THE BEAUTIFUL” are sung partly in Cherokee and partly in English; the latter song being sung wonderfully in an acapella arrangement.

In my summation, Jody Brown Indian Family has come a long way.  They aren’t quite what I think they could be, but they are getting there.  There are noticeable improvements with each recording and I am enjoying their music more and more.  As they continue to develop their style and try new things, all the while they are still keeping true to the sound that is uniquely their own.

Personal Favs: THAT JUST GOES TO SHOW; LIFE IS GOOD; HE HAD THE WORLD ON HIS SHOULDERS; I’M SO GLAD HE DID; PRAISE GOD HE’S ALIVE

James,I read another review of this project. It mentioned that some of the songs were written by a Scott Thomas and his wife.Is this the same Scott Thomas that sang with Tony Gore and Majesty?

I love the Jody Brown family. I saw them for the first time at the Seminole Gospel Sing in August and saw them again last weekend. They have a fresh new sound which I love... but most of all I love their ministering spirit. You can tell they aren't just up on stage to entertain, but they are there to minister to the people. I love this project, especially "Next Time I See You" and "Praise God He's Alive". Way to go guys!
