LordSong. What more can be said of this group? Apparently quite a bit, because it seems to me that people just haven't "got" the group yet. There's no doubt that LordSong is the most underrated group currently singing today. It's a hard thing to fathom. LordSong (the debut album) was a critical success, but the group took it to a new level with Day 3, perhaps their most acclaimed album to date. They have since released Accapella and Refuse to Be Afraid, and last year they saw two of the singles from that album became huge hits ("While I Wait" and "I'm Gonna Sing"). So it's easy to look at this group and wonder "how can they top it"? It's easy if you're LordSong: you just keep doing what you've always done. Soul Food is no exception to the rule. The new album sees the group stretching their musical boundaries again, only this time abandoning the more bluegrass flair of Refuse To Be Afraid and settling into a nice modern country and progressive southern sound.

"All My Reasons Are You", "I Want to Live It All", and "Pass the Faith Along" are all reminiscent of today's country, without forsaking their Southern Gospel roots. The most traditional the group gets is on the Kevin Stokes and Amy Keffer-Shellem penned "The Cross Was Enough". Michael Lord in particular shines extremely brightly on the tune. The group flirts with praise and worship and inspirational sounds on the cover of "Shout to the Lord". The stripped down approach highlights each individual's voice. "My Good, Your Glory" has a very Martins-esque feel, and it is easily one of the catchier songs with its piano based instrumentation. "I Know the Plans (I Have for You)" is a beautiful ballad showcasing Kim Lord's stunning vocals. However, the highlights of the disc come in the final three tracks. "I Want to Live It All" (penned by Patti Hawkins) has a lyrical theme similar to Perrys' "I Wish I Could Have Been There". The song is full of energy, and it shows off exactly why Kim is one of the most acclaimed vocalists today. "I Am Sure of You" is this album's "Stronger For It", featuring Amber Franks. It is the albums strongest lyric (written by Joel Lindsey and Belinda Smith), and much like "Stronger For It", sets itself apart from the typical heaven-cross-blood type of Southern Gospel song. However, Kim Lord's "Wandering Heart" (written by Marty Funderburk and Kevin Ward) is a jazzy number, featuring a shuffle beat and bluesy piano arrangement. The lyrics are beautiful, and one finds himself or herself humming the melody for hours on end.

Their last album, Refuse To Be Afraid, really highlighted Michael and Amber, however there is no denying that Kim is the star of Soul Food. She's come to the point that her voice is instantly recognizable, and Soul Food really showcases that beautifully. It's hard to imagine that LordSong was able to match the creative mark of their last few albums, but it is easy to see that the group just gets better and better with each album. I can't wait to see what the future holds.

James Hales's avatar I think this is probably the best LordSong recording they have put out. My favs are "The Cross was Enough", "I know the plan" (I hope this makes it to radio!) and "Shout to the Lord."

I was surprised to see "Shout" released to radio...it will be interesting to see how this "striped down" arrangement does for the group. They do an awesome job of it.

Kim Lord has remained one of my favorite singers of all time. She commands your attention when she sings. She sings with authority and I love it!

LordSong rocks!

I bought this project just a few hours ago and have enjoyed it. I'm not sure if I like it as much as Day 3, but it is another great CD. I love this group and aappreciate their willingness to stretch themselves stylistically. This is not your father's Southern Gospel!!

I really love this project.

Their version of "Shout To The Lord" is the best one I've ever heard. I listen to it over and over and over. It's like they are shouting with their HEART instead of their Voice. It is really Awesome! I love the simple music behind them and hope they will make a track available for this song.

I got to listen to this CD this past weekend. My favorite is "Pass the Faith Along". They do an excellent job with this Patti Hawkins penned song!

This CD is pretty good. I tend to like the second half of it better than the first half, but that could be because I keep listening to most of those songs over and over. LOL. "Shout To The Lord" is nice; I love the tightness of LordSong's harmony on it. "Wandering Heart" and "I Am Sure of You" are probably my favorite songs on the entire recording. "I Want to Live It All" is just fun! When I heard the chorus, it really caught my attention. Definitely better than "I Wish I Could Have Been There," but that's just my opinion. What's funny is that when I started listening to it, I could almost picture Jason Crabb singing it and adding some "Crabb flare" to it. "I Know The Plans (I Have For You)" is another of my favorites. I like Jeremiah 29:11, and that song really reminded me of that verse.]

LordSong just got through spending the day with us at First Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia. I will not soon forget what I heard today. Excellent vocals? Yes, but I was most excited about their spirit in the Lord Jesus Christ.
