This could quite possibly be the best recording the McKameys have ever done. The McKameys have a unique style that is all their own and they have the uncanny ability to find the perfect songs that fit them. There are few groups I respect any more than I do the McKameys. What you see (or hear) is what you get. There is no pretense about their music and they don't dance around the subject to get their message across either. I appreciate that!

A seldom-heard Albert E. Brumley song entitled, “A SERMON IN SONG” gets the recording started and kind of sets an underlying theme for the whole recording, as each of these songs are little sermonettes set to music.

The convicting “ANYTHING THAT COSTS ME NOTHING” which features Peg and the title song, “FRESH MANNA” featuring Carol, are the real triumphs of the recording. I find myself soaking in the messages of these two songs over and over again. I hope to eventually hear these songs on the radio before this recording is done with.

There are only certain songs that fit Ruben, and “ SEA OF WHITE ” fits him perfectly. It's the best I have heard Ruben on a song in years. Though a bit different for the McKameys, it is definitely one of the highlights of the recording.

A wonderful depiction of the love God had for us is found in the song “HOW COULD HE,” which features Connie.

In the essence of the convention style singing, the McKameys sing “ONLY TRUST IN HIM” before slowing it down a bit for “COMING VERY SOON,” “I AM HOME” and “THE GARDEN.”

Carol is featured on the uptempo, “THE GOOD NEWS” which ends the recording on a positive note that “ the good news is that our hope is not in this life.”

I tend to lump The McKameys and the Inspirations together because they enjoy almost the same fan base, have a very consistent track record and have very similar musical styles. With this recording, I have to give the McKameys ½ star better than what I gave the Inspirations in my review of their “What a Day” CD for the simple reason the McKameys song selection is a bit stronger than the Inspirations. Plus, I like the cover to this recording. It's nothing extravagant, but it's a perfect example of how a recording title and cover art can go hand in hand. As I said with my Inspirations review, if you're a fan, you'll love this recording. If you're not a fan, this probably won't change your mind.

Personal Favs: ANYTHING THAT COSTS ME NOTHING; FRESH MANA; SEA OF WHITE ; COMING VERY SOON; THE GOOD GOOD NEWS

Great review of a great project, James. I have a feeling "Fresh Manna" may win the McKameys some fresh fans. There's nothing not to like about this recording - it's a slice of Christian Americana, to coin a phrase.

An awesome CD! This project shows the McKameys at their best. Great voacls sung with a smile. Fantastic lyrics and the music is excellent.

The first release to radio, "The Good News" will be a chart topper for sure. This one song captures everything that is good about the McKameys and may be the best song that they have ever recorded. Excellent CD - excellent review.

The McKameys are truely spiritual. They have talent that has lasted over the years and will remain for many years to come. I love the McKameys, especially Peg, she is a powerhouse singer and she really gets the spirit to start moving.
