Mercy’s Well is a fairly young group who daringly leave the big track sound of guitars, drums and strings behind to make this recording with just piano, allowing their voices to be the main instruments on this CD. They pull it off very well. With their creative arrangements and vocal stylings you are so enthralled with the message of these great hymns to ever miss the instruments usually attributed to a great recording.

Starting the CD is “Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus”. Though the song is a little jagged in timing the piano accompaniment flows well with the vocals and makes everything fit together. Moving right into a new song from the pen of Chris Binion. "Nothing But The Blood" talks about the new songs yet incorporates several of the old standard hymns within the song.

“Jesus Saves” brings you a more traditional touch. You can sit back and really worship as you listen to this rendition of a great classic of the church. The medley of “Haven Of Rest” with “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be” lets us reflect on the hope we have after these trials of life are finally over. Keeping in tune with the classics of hymns, “It Is Well With My Soul” is performed with tremendous feeling.

“New Name In Glory/Over In The Gloryland” is a welcome treat as it’s the first fast song on the CD. The other upbeat song on the CD is “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder” and is also very refreshing. My only real complaint about this project would be that it could use a couple more upbeat songs on it.

Other great hymns include “Holy Manna”, “The Love Of God” And “Jesus Is All The World To Me/There’s Just Something About That Name.”

I love this project. Donna did a great job on the arrangements, and the harmony is wonderful. Can't wait to here more from Mercy's Well.

It isn't the fault of the reviewer if they did not catch the "whole concept of the album." I think 31/2 stars is a pretty good review myself.

James Hales's avatar I disagree with this review. I picked this up at NQC and I was thoroughly impressed. While I may not have given this 5 stars, it would have definitely gotten 4 1/2. Great arrangements, excellent graphics for the cover and superb vocals make this one of the best hymn recordings to come out in awhile. I was extremely impressed with this recording.

Deon Unthank's avatar James, we have disagreed on reviews before. I just called this one as I heard it. I listened to it at least six times before reviewing it. My biggest thing was the limit of the variety of the tempo in the songs. In my opinion that prevented it from being 4 or 4 1/2 stars.
Travis, what was the concept they were trying to achieve? I made mention of the piano only tracks and the creative arrangements, what more did you want?
What concept was I missing?

I will have to agree with Mr. Hales. I believe this cd shouldve gotten a higher rating. Mr. Unthank...we must not be listening to the same cd. I picked this cd up at NQC and have listened to it at least a dozen times. The thing so great about the cd is, there isn't a song that I continuously skip over! Maybe I am old fashioned, but being an all Hymns cd, makes it that much better. The style, the song choice, the harmony, and obviously the hard work put into it, should constitute at least a 4.5 star rating. What a reason to give such a rating...not enough fast songs!! HAHA!! Does that merit a 3.5 star rating?
