Class, dignity, legend and respect are but four words I think of when I think of the name, Naomi Sego. What a grand lady she is. At this stage in her life, she is still pushing on, singing the gospel with Kasey Kemp and Nathan Stoops by her side. In the latest slew of recordings from the group on resurrected songs from their past, “Renewed” (the group also released another album by the same title about 20 years ago) digs up some grand old songs, dusts them off and revives them for their fans.

Naomi starts things off with her classic tune, “SATISFIED WITH ME” before picking up the pace with “HEAVEN”. Newest member, Nathan Stoops, steps up and sings a classic from the 1970s, “IT’LL BE DIFFERENT THE NEXT TIME”.

Naomi does a great job on “THE LIGHTS OF HOME”, which is one the great songs from the 1960s. Always a campmeeting favorite, it was great hearing this song revived, as was “PALMS OF VICTORY”, which features Kasey Kemp.

Always a tender favorite, Naomi sings the ballad, “A CHILD’S REQUEST” before turning in another favorite, “THIS IS JUST WHAT HEAVEN MEANS TO ME”. In the 1960’s, Naomi’s first husband, James Sego, popularized the peppy, “GOOD MORNING NEIGHBOR”, and Kasey turns in the verses on this song. While Kasey does a good job, it just sounds funny to me hearing the words “blue serge suit” coming from someone his age. The recording ends with two classic tunes, “SORRY I NEVER KNEW YOU” and “HALLELUJAH SQUARE” (one of my all time favorite songs).

While it is great seeing the group reviving their old tunes, I’d love to see them do another recording of new songs. This is roughly the fourth release in as many years that the group has done with entirely rehashed tunes, but I will say as far as production is concerned, this is the best the group has put out in recent years. The tracks are great and the group, as collective, sound as solid as ever. This will be a must have for their fans.

Personal Favs: SATISFIED WITH ME; HEAVEN; THE LIGHTS OF HOME; SORRY I NEVER KNEW YOU; HALLELUJAH SQUARE

I purchased this recording when it came out, and love it! Our entire family, mom's and dad's and even our kids, love the Segos. We see them every chance we get. Our kids love it when we see them do Palms of Victory, live, because they like the "radio days" one mic.

I would encourage everyone to go get this recording!

I am so happy that Miss Naomi continues to travel and sing and bless us with her wonderful talents, and her sweet spirit. She is a legendary member of the Southern Gospel family, and a wonderful role model for the young ladies coming on. May the Lord continue use this dear lady and the Segos in Kingdom's work for many years to come!

I was very fortunate to get a call from Mike Bailey and Aaron Minick to track this record. I was told that this is her 80th album! I found that amazing. It was a great experience to work with such a legendary artist.

Hey Steve, not sure what track this record means, but you tracked it good! I love this cd, but I love Naomi's songs.

I have seen the group do this live and have enjoyed the "vintage" sound they created on this recording. I heard them say that it was her 75th album, which would be Diamond, right? Anyway, I think that is so cool!

Congratulations Segos on a great recording, I hope to see you all again very soon.

The problem with Southern gospel music today is everyone doing "new" songs. Kudos to Naomi for staying with traditional.

Naomi is and will always be one of my favorite gospel singers. I have always felt that she is the best. I love you Naomi, Kasey, you are also very talented and are one of the nicest people I have ever met. May God Richly Bless You Is My Prayer, Your Brother In Christ, Ernie Dawson
