Naomi and the Segos2001/Son Sound Platinum Records

After almost 45 years of singing, Southern Gospel icon and legend, Naomi Sego is still singing and she sounds as strong as ever.  Growing up, I was always a big fan of the Sego Brothers and Naomi.  In fact, they were one of the first gospel groups I remember seeing in person.  Their sound always found a warm place in my heart, and it still does.  The group has consistently had one of the most identifiable sounds in all of gospel music.  Naomi has always been the foundation for their exclusive sound, and she is still holding down the fort after all these years.  That in itself is a milestone!  Naomi is the picture of class and dignity, and though in the fall of her life, she still maintains the image she’s always had.

With Naomi being in the late season of her life and with having 2 husbands and a son, along with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ waiting on the other side, you can’t help but notice a common thread with this recording.  Most of the songs on here point to her anxiousness to get Home.  Songs like ”THERE’S GONNA BE SHOUTIN’“, ”LAY DOWN YOUR ARMOR“, ”OUT OF THE DUST“, ”OUR LORD IS COMING“, ”AT LAST“ and ”IT CAN’T BE LONG“, all ponder thoughts of seeing loved on the other side while worshipping and praising the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

Other songs include ”BETTER KEEP YOUR LIGHT BURNING“ which is a medium tempo song reminding us to keep our light burning bright so a lost and dying humanity can see Him through us.  ”A SINNER’S PRAYER“ is a song written by Gerald Crabb and it features Scott Spangler and he does a great job interpreting this song of repentance.  Scott is featured on the triumphant ”ON THE THIRD DAY“ as well.  Naomi reaffirms her faith as she victoriously proclaims that she was truly ”BORN TO SERVE THE LORD.”

There are two other songs that I find myself listening to and being blessed by over and over again.  “HOMECOMING DAY”, which I feel is destined to be the Segos next chart song and “WHEN I REACH HOME”, which further shows that Naomi is setting her sights on things above, are both outstanding songs.  Both of these songs are very special and are worth the price you pay for this CD.

“Milestones” is true to the style that the Segos have long been known for.  Whether you are a fan of Naomi and the Segos or not, Naomi commands respect and her humble spirit and Christian demeanor makes her the classy lady she is and legend she has become.

I am looking for a song the Sego Brothers and Naomi made popular in the spring of 1964. Can't remember the name, but we loved it! Mom would say," That's just beautiful," as I listened to the radio while waiting for the school bus to arrive. I'd like to find it for her birthday.
