Ricky Atkinson is one of those songwriters who has a very distinct style. I can just about hear anyone else sing one of his songs, and know it had to be penned by Ricky. Many songwriters search for years that niche for themselves both musically and lyrically, but Ricky found it a long time ago. He found it, and has run with it ever since. With the changes in his ministry over the last year, Ricky decided to release a semi-solo recording. It's still Ricky Atkinson & Compassion, but in this case, it is Ricky Atkinson with Compassion.

The lead off song, "I WISH YOU COULD SEE HIM NOW" is a powerful song, perfectly fitted for Easter and was written from a unique perspective; the first verse is written from Jesus' mother Mary's perspective, and the second verse was written from the perspective of God the Father. A remarkable piece of work and leads perfectly into the medium tempo, "JESUS MADE THE WAY."

Stylistically typical for some of Ricky's writings, "FIRST LOVE" features some unique background vocal work and is one of the strongest songs on this recording. Another song that follows a similar vein musically is the song, "SHOWER OF BLESSINGS."

Filled with all the fervor of an old fashioned campmeeting, "THAT'S HOW IT HAPPENED TO ME" recalls a salvation experience and could easily be adapted as anyone's testimony of how they came to be saved. Rounding out this 6 song collection is the big band stylings of "THANK GOD I'M SAVED" (previously recorded by the Perrys over 6 years ago).

With the exception that Ricky sang the lead on every song, I didn't see much difference between this recording and past RAC recordings. I felt as a whole, the songs on this release were some of Ricky's strongest material and thought it was an excellent vocal effort as well.

As an added bonus to this CD, the music tracks for all six songs (with and without BGVs) are included as well; which I think was a very smart idea. With only 6 songs, the recording ends much too soon. But with the tracks included, you still get your money's worth. (Unless you don't sing, then.oh well!)
