The Greesons come to us from Chickamauga, GA. This family groups sings a traditional style of Gospel Music and their sound and style reminds me a little of the Hemphills.
Sylvia Green gives us the first song, “Still in Control”, a good hand clapper done in standard quartet style. “When the Master Steps Out”, written by Stephen Phillips, is a nice waltz that features Lisa Dykes. “Grace for Grace” is a pretty ballad again written by Stephen Phillips. This song features either Tony Dykes or Joey Demastus, both who share the lead position for the group.
“When God Shows Up” is a kicking tune that has great radio potential. This song was written by Rick Simpson as is the following song, “If It Wasn’t for You”. This is a nice country ballad. “Give Me Some of that Water” is another good up tempo song written by Tim and Lana Chandler. This song would also make a good choice for a radio release.
“Sinner’s Prayer”, from Rick Simpson, is a pretty ballad and features Joey Demastus. “Some Morning I Shall Stand” picks the tempo back up and has some interesting chord progressions in the verses and a more traditional Southern Gospel tune on the chorus. Daniel Demastus sings bass for the group and is featured on the Ann Ballard tune, “Treasures Unseen”. I first heard this song many years ago done by the Florida Boys. It was good to hear this song done again. They close the project out with a song written by Clint Kerns, “I Shall Return”.
The Greesons have a solid Country Gospel sound. They are at their best when they are doing ensemble work but their feature vocals are good and solid. I would recommend that you check this fine family group out.
