Third Promise - “The Secret”

imageFemale trios are becoming a popular trend in Southern Gospel. Third Promise joins those ranks with their debut project on the newly created Mission House Music Group record label. Titled The Secret, this recording has strong production quality value. Six of the ten choices are upbeat. You can definitely hear some Martins influences. It’s likely that producer Jonathan Martin had some impact in that area.

The songwriting is very good as well, drawing from recognizable writers like Mosie Lister ("I’ve Been Changed"), Buddy Mullins, and Reggie Smith. Three tunes were written by Deanna Surles, who also oversaw the CD artwork. Her tune “Hiding Place” is the strongest slow tune on the CD. The up-tempo songs like “Pray, Pray, Pray” (written by Steven Hill and Woody Wright) and Surles’ “That Was Then, This Is Now” will have more potential for Third Promise on Southern Gospel radio. Right now, the vocalists seem to be more creative when singing the songs that really get up and move.

Seeing new artists enter the field is always encouraging. Third Promise has the potential to be a progressive force, bridging some stylistic gaps for the genre.

Let’s conclude with a few “ifs.” If forced to put a label on Third Promise’s style, I’d call it “Fun Southern Gospel.” If you’re looking for a pop Christian music comparison, Third Promise is what Avalon would be if Avalon’s focus was on the Southern Gospel market. And finally, if Third Promise’s concert performances have the same energy level as their recording, expect to hear their name mentioned more and more, especially by younger fans.

Producers: George Hairr and Jonathan Martin

I don't think that I would call this group's music Fun Southern Gospel, but rather Progressive Southern Gospel, which is becoming very popular today. I thought that the song selection was very nice and the song penned by Deana Surles, "Meanwhile In The Garden" would make a great radio cut.

I have not been able to get this CD, but judging from the single alone, I have a feeling I will really like this CD. Their arrangement of I've Been Changed is really super charged and I like what I hear.

Heard these young ladies in concert and they captured the attention of this male quartet fan. They are really great and add a different twist to their program.

I would label them as progressive country or forget the label and call them very good.

These girls are some of my closest friends. I have known them for almost 10 years, and went to Mount Olive College with them. " Carla, you were a shining light in my life. You never turned your back on me, and are such an inspiration to me. I love you, and I am going to miss you!!"

" Rena, I am so thankful to be able to call you my friend. You are a gifted singer, and have a truly beautiful voice. I am praying for your full recovery. I love you, and am looking forward to hearing you sing again soon."

"Christa, Thank you for always being there for me, and I am blessed by having you in my life. I know things are hard right now, and we do not know why things happen the way that they do. Always remember that I love you, and I am praying for you, and all of your families."

THESE GIRLS ARE AWESOME!!!!!! Carla, we miss you soo much! But, we know that you are in a much better place than here on earth. I know you are doing what you always wanted to so, Sing In God's Heavenly Choir! You are still to this day a living testimony of how a Christian should be. The love and compassion you showed for everyone around you. Your smile and your beautiful voice though we will miss the most. It's almost been one year since your death and sometimes I find myself looking at your pictures and still asking God "WHY?," Why did you have to take her?? But God has bigger and better plans for us than we sometimes have for ourselves. You touched soo many lives and truley left your mark upon us all. Your work for God was finished. You accomplished what he wanted you to do and then chose to take you home to live with him forever. Thank you for all you mean to me but most of all, "Thank You For Giving To The Lord."!!
